Don't know if it's sampled/synthetic, but the way it behaves is similar to a ping pong ball being dropped. I've always thought it sounds a bit like a euler's disc spinning, too.

considering the physics involved in the reverberation of the type of matter to produce sounds as constant as that of which a bouncing ball would, i'd say its definately synthetic/fake/programmed etc blah blah blah whatever...
anyways, as the title indicates they would actually be the preserved testicles of alexander the great's war horse. how rdj came into possesion of those, i think, poses a more pregnant question wouldn't you agree?

i know this is true. he bought 50 sets of tomy's screwball scramble. kept the ball bearings, sampled the sounds and threw the the screwball scrambles away
