Old VW good. New VW bad.

Build quality seem to have taken a nosedive in recent years.
A few months back, I was driving a fresh from the forecourt
Golf GTI and the gear stick head (and attached leather bag &
surround) all came off in my hand while putting it into
reverse! The whole dash/seats felt quite cheap and fragile
too. Not the same "built to last" feel of their cars from
10, or even 5 years back.

I had a Passat back in the day (about 5 years ago), it was a
lovely car.

golfs and jettas up to mk4 = unbeatable.
i definately dislike their newer models - the mk5 golf is
ugly. and they seem a lot less durable now, and have the
feel of wussy city cars instead of rough all-purpose
go-everywhere things like the mk2 golfs and polos.
new polos are shit too.

Audi's are good though. I was driving an A6 the other week.
I am now thinking of buying one.

I have a VW 1200 (still with the flat windscreen) painted in
two colours which supposedly makes it look like a mafia
vehicle. It doesn't because nobody ion my family thought
that 100+€ was a reasonable price for tyres with white
rings.

Any buyers?

‘So you see another group, like Tangerine Dream, although
they are German they have an English name, so they create
onstage an Anglo–American identity, which we completely
deny. We want the whole world to know that we are from
Germany, because the German mentality — which is more
advanced — will always be part of our behavior. We create
out of the German language, the mother language, which is
very mechanical; we use it as the basic structure of our
music.’

— Ralf Hütter[7]

you see, Germans are more advanced. Therefore their cars
must be too.

granted that ive only driven a handful of cars, its by far
the most fun ive had. love that german engineering.
