i guess i'll mini-review this since no one else seems to
have it. first i should say i think 'exidy tours' is
phenomenal, in my top dozen or so all-time electronic
records. + i'm a rephlex fan, so i expected a lot from
this.

volume one is cohesive as an album, but also extremely
varied, and it contains andy's best and worst material. it's
an hour long; 25 minutes or so is boring or unlistenable to
me (though some here will probably like it). i can't really
say the album is any good before track 6 or seven. there's
just waay too many drums and hardly any melody. it sounds
like horrible hardcore. the second half though is good to
truly incredible, really amazing stuff the likes of which
i've never heard from any artist. as a whole, the record has
a 'sound,' the mood/style evolves from track to track, and
various motifs recur through multiple songs.

track-by-track:
steve-opener is a one minute throwaway. except for this
track there's very little singing thankfully (mindgun,
anybody?)

jam jarre-the standout of the first half. glitchy, thuddy
rhythms and melodic echoes carry it. a very nice tune.

hardcore raver-suffers badly from squarepusheritis

plenger-the brief nintendo melody that appears almost 4
minutes in does very little to save this dismal track. i
found it annoying; probably the worst track on the record

here we gowowowo (a.k.a. sample #2 from boomkat)- another
jungly, thuddy mess. i hate this one too

toxico gang: although this song kinda bridges the crap tunes
before with the good ones after, i find it really enjoyable.
finally get some tasty ceephax acid lines swimming in here,
nice subtle melodies. good one

texaco gang (boomkat sample 3): best acid on the record! a
great synth part comes in as the drums completely drop out
at about 4’. the album comes together for me at this
point.

tx highway- floating synth ambience and icy blips echo over
very repetitive but not unpleasant drumming that defies
description. a really nice tune

tx jammer- mid-tempo tune that has a great melody and bass
part, and the drum patterns go in and out of sync which is
nice. brings it back together just when he's getting too far
off the path. solid

dreamer: boomkat sample 1/if you've heard the sample,
imagine that for 5 1/2 minutes. a great tune, it doesn't
really go anywhere but i don't mind at all

last exit to fambridge: silly and catchy in that ceephax
way. i like this one

summer frosby- the longest and BY FAR the best track on this
record. i can only hope that volume two picks up where this
one left off.. there you go

Volume was a great series of compilation albums or
semiregular magazine, whichever way you look at it. Volume 8
is the standing favourite
