i've only just started playing doom3. good game. very
atmospheric, tho you have to be in the mood.

some good mods for it.

plays like a bitch on line tho. very laggy.

in answer to your question ken, no.

xbox-its top but very very freaky. half life 2 is
awesome...favourite shoot-em up. its top.

Ezkerraldean just got your joke. why havn't you got your own
tv show eh?

yeah it's a great game.

spent a little while reading about it yesterday, since hl2
was the featured article on wikipedia.

how many friends you've neglected...weird...

Yes. Very. Got a new computer two moths ago, and bought HL2
the first day. HL2 was actually one of the reasons why I
didn't buy a Macbook, and ended up with a Dell instead. I
was not disappointed. Def the best FPS out there. Gonna
finish FEAR now (nice game, but certainly no HL), and then
buy Episode 1.

Episode one is fun, well worth torrenting, it is, however, a
bit short.

The stuff that'll happen in episode 2 is what you spend your
time during episode 1 waiting for. but it's still pretty
fun.

I remember in HL2.. that "No one goes to ravelholm anymore"
chapter.. jesus fucking christ that scared the fuck out of
me.. I remember playing it in first year in college,
actually letting shouts out of me when those rat bastard
zombies would come back to life, etc.

the atmosphere is just brilliant. very effective and
affecting.

yeah that levels well fucked up!!! theres a bit when your
waiting for the priest to send up a cable car and there are
these made fucked up fast as fuck zombies trying to get up a
drainpipe to piss on your chips. well freaky. the
environments in halflife 2 are creepy as well. well weird
and well original.

The best thing about HL is the variation. I don't get the
feeling that every level is the same like sometimes when I
play Doom3 of FEAR.

yeah exactly... and even the fact that in HL2 that you're
able to drive around in that hovercraft and the buggy (god
that buggy kicks hole)..

it really makes the game a lot more fun

Love it and it's about time for my annual Half Life
runthrough. I liked HL2 but something about the Black Mesa
experience really stuck with me.

I once thought someone's Half Life logo shirt was an Aphex
logo shirt. Oh, and Half Life is fun... Yay Half Life...
Episode 2 needs to hurry up and come out, though!

Same thing. This guy at uni saw my Aphex shirt and said:
"Wheey, Half-Life."
I said: "No, Aphex, but yeah I love Half-Life."

half-life 2 was the last game i bought for my PC. its a
great, great game. the first half-life however, was even
better. the best thing about it was TEAM FORTRESS CLASSIC.
do people still play it? that was my life for a year or so.
was in a few pretty decent clans and would love a blast now.
shame i dont own it any more.

the revamped Team Fortress 2 will be coming out with HL2:
Episode 2 (Valve is saying next summer, but they said Ep2
would be out last Christmas, so it'll probably be next
Christmas).

HL and HL2 are fantastic games. The story is gripping, but
the set pieces and relentless action make them truly
exceptional. Episode 1 was sweet, but a little short.
Episodic games may well be the future since they allow
development teams to get content out there much faster. And
for the HL series, this means a lot, since the only bad
thing about the games are the constant release delays :)

And Portal looks like a lot of fun.

I enjoyed the game, though it's been a couple of years since
I last played it.

Does anyone know of an fps with a nice story (and all the
other elements that contribute to the nice-ness, i.e.
graphics, controls ...) that is not mission-based (level
1,2, etc)?

best fps i've played i guess, I didn't finish it cus the
last level is kinda tedious. but great game, immersing story
and whanot nice themes with the military and the aliens and
all. I'd even go and say one of te best game ever but i'd
need to re-pay to see how wel it ages

the only thing that's ever really annoyed me about half-life
was going to pissing Xen - gay, annoying levels.

this site is a bit anal - it's the HL story in full [so
far?]...

It ages pretty well, even the AI for the marines holds up
pretty OK.

Though I usually want to quit when I reach the Xen area
before the thing with the sac on its belly. Xen does suck.

in slightlty related news, Gabe Newell, head honcho of
Valve, has openly and royally pissed on the PS3:

"The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think
It's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and
what developers wanted," said Newell. "I'd say, even at this
late date, they should just cancel it and do a 'do over'.
Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and
we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince
people to develop for it.'"
