Does anybody like the music of John Adams in this forum? Like Reich's music, I find his stuff to be beautifully hypnotic and uplifting. His sound is also fairly distinguished, though if you're into minimalist music I'm sure you'd appreciate him. Any Terry Riley fans here, too?

Yeah I've been really enjoying his stuff.
There's a really cheap Naxos CD out with Shaker Loops and a few other bits, its a really decent collection. Shaker Loops is great.
I saw 'Common Tones in Simple Time' performed last year and that raelly turned me on to him.

his operas are fantastic. "Nixon in China" is great, but especially "The Death of Klinghoffer" is great.
a film was made a few years back of "The Death of Klinghoffer", with all the parts actually sung on location. it's available on dvd, I can't recommend it enough.
I would pass on "I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky" (despite the wonderful title) - to me it sounds too much like a bad musical.

Yeah, that's the CD that introduced me to him. I still love "Shaker Loops". I've been finding "The Chairman Dances" pretty fun lately.

yeah, he is really good. I'm not really into his newer stuff, he drifted away from the minimalist sound and went into more advanced harmonies that I just dont find too appealing.
