I'll pretend to be Akira:
"Yes, I've read the original Akira books. The film adaptation is awesome!"
I hope I passed.

From what I know, the anime ends at volume 2 of the mangas, and there are 6. I've been told Tetsuo comes back as some kind of narcissistic demigod. Haven't read them yet. The anime was perfect.

hey akira, what did you think of the drastic cutting of the story. of course it was necessary (a 2000 page 6 book epic into one film?!) but did you feel it got the main points and themes across? for me the books themes are focusing around the corruption of those in power while the film focuses more on evolution and revolution, be it in a technological or social sense. im pleased though because they both excellent stand-alone pieces.

I love Akira. I am the only one here who finds Tetsuo kind of sexy? I wish he didn't turn into that giant lump of repulsive muscular flesh at the end; his old skinny ripped body must would have been more pleasant to see.
