Do you think that a lot of today's well known 'IDM' superstars would have been as productive? eg, Aphex Twin. It seems to me Richie spends all his time on the Internet, probably posting under a childish alias doing "lol lmao ass! ghey u suxor- RTD is a ghey faggot" type posts on message boards these days. Do you think we'd have the discog's we have now if the Internet had been around just like it is now, in 1993? Do you think most IDM superstars opf years past are big Internet nerds, who nowadays sit at home, smoke dope and crack and browse porno websites like pornotube or summat>?

I see your point. I think a lot of aphex's music stems from not having anything better to do.

I shudder to think how shit music would be if Aphex had churned out things like Smojphace in '93, instead of SAW1. Conversly, had he made Drukqs back then it would have been absolutely insane.

that's sort of not my point though. I'm saying he wouldn't have put anything out if he had Internet to bum around on from 1993. I think that the Internet took off big time around 1997/1998, around the time RDJ started to get less productive and a bit meh.

Second thought: But on the other hand, look at the productivity of BOC...

totally not where i thought you were going with this topic...
just think of all the other implications if they had the internet now back in 93, or any technology for that matter. it's funny, over the holidays there was a movie on tv "jingle all the way" arnold schwarzenegger and phil hartman, released in 96, 10 years ago, and all through out the movie while arnie is searching for this toy for his son for christmas he keeps using payphones... LOL!!! payphones!!!
now after that ipod/iphone thread even more possibilities of "what if" in this scenario!

Wasn't the inner sleeve of "Artificial Intelligence II" released in, ooh lol etc 1994, full of bullshit harvested from some messageboard dedicated to LOL electronic music. The only thing mindblowing about this thread is that someone would come up with it over 10 years too late.

Other than that though, I agree.
Oh I don't actually, I hate the way web sites all look kind of the same, and the "better" designed they are, the more they form some homogenous style that only appeals to other web designers. It's like making all TV programmes the same. The web's a terrible medium. It's great at delivering stuff but.. horrible really to look at or have to fucking deal with.
