It's not THAT stupid. It's almost like you're looking at a cartoon and expecting it to explain the whole situation in depth. I mean, on a basic level the conflict in Northern Ireland is over religion between Protestants and Catholics. I guess in a cartoon you don't want to have super detail about something like that which kids wouldn't understand. Captain Planet is a pretty lame cartoon, yes, but the basic message that the fighting in Ireland is stupid IS true, because it is stupid. And they also fit in a message about how nuclear bombs are bad, so they killed two birds with one stone! ;) |

I was taking the piss when i said "the troubles up north explained". I never expected to glean proper historical fact and insight from a cartoon, let alone a cartoon such as captain planet. i just think it's funny. your summary of the conflict up north i find far more offensive and condescending. |

yes. there was plenty of colonialism shit ages ago. but what about the bit where the IRA bombing random towns and hotels and killing loads of innocent people, either because they have differing political opinions, or for their religion, or just for the hell of it and the unionists probably do the same sort of stuff too. i'm not biased either way. all that stuff sounds pretty stupid |
