no, I've still got an oral "defend your paper" thing

but that's not until far into December, and that, too, will
be followed by whisky!

I'm going over to this girls place for consumption of these
and there will be other brands there. I'm bringing the
lagavulin and the smokehead and then the jameson bottle for
getting drunk when our taste buds are numb. The ardbeg and
laphroaig are staying home tonight, as I know there'll be
laphroaig there and I think there may be ardbeg. I've got
someone to babysit them.

~500 kroner each (70cl) (except for the jameson bottle which
is both cheaper and smaller) = 81,18$, £41,7, 61,49euro.
The laphroaig 1 litre was bought on a tax free, so that was
only 248kroner or something.

I don't think the price varies that much from norway to
denmark on these, but in tax free, it's like under half the
price

:=

Damn. But i guess the better it is, the more similar the
prices are.

but if you wan't to get drunk in cheap beer, Denmark is
still the place to go (in scandinavia). 1.75kr for some of
the cheapest beer. And you can get one thats slightly more
expensive, but but much stronger for a bit more KR.

Aldi sells whisky for ~80 kr. I haven't tasted it, but in
terms of quality it's probably right up there with Le frog
and the others.

exams and papers and so on.

One of the few norwegians i know, moved to Denmark, only
because he could drink and smoke much cheaper here. It's
like the fucking las vegas of scandinavia.

Ah, the 'viva' remains. If you've not done one before, read
up about them. They can be pretty harsh and I imagine if you
dislike public speaking it'll be especially hard. When I did
the one on my first degree I foolishly assumed it was just
going to be a presentation with some questions at the end.

It really is a case of defending your work. It wound up a
mixture of being cross examined in court and trying to sell
a shoddy product to a bunch of venture capitalists. Expect
intentional misinterpretation of things you've said/written,
general negativity and questioning of things that seem
obvious to any normal person in the field, let alone a load
of senior academics.

Enjoy the piss-up!

oh, I've had these before.. all our oral exams are like
defend your paper at first and then at the end they'll ask
you about everything else if you manage it. it's not a
disputas, as we call it; I'm not going up against an
opponent or anything like that, I just have to answer some
peoples questions and they're going to be all "what's this
all about?" and "why didn't you mention that..?"

I could finish my bachelor now (I could've finished
it a year ago if it hadn't been for the army/civil duty
thing), but I'm doing another semester, then I'm on to
master.

spoke at some kind of "carreer day" thingie at the
university. I can't remember what she did there, but she
worked for statoil as a philosopher.
