save me from ipod hell!!

offline cword on 2006-11-27 11:11 [#02008686]

its taking me a full year to truely hate my ipod nano.
actually what i really hate is the software itunes.

-transfering songs to and from the ipod is a nightmare.
sometimes the songs i added to itunes dont show up on my
ipod.

-why isnt there a seperate library for itunes to use just as
a media player on my computer. where as the ipod tries to
add anything in itunes (and sometimes doesnt as mentioned
above).

-deleting tunes from itunes: one at a time only. you cant
drag over dozens of songs that you want to delete at once,
no you have to spend some quality time clicking each one
which brings up a box every time making sure you really want
to delete.

so my question is, what mp3 player should i buy now that i
am within moments of breaking this fucking piece of shit in
half?

help. thanks

are you mental, or just unaware of the power those shiney
'shift' and 'control' buttons on your keyboard hold?

a shortcut im unaware of? lemme check.

tell me that the iriver just uses windows folders to add and
delete songs and DOESNT come with its own shit software that
you have to use and im sold.

thanks

thanks again, ok deleting will be easier.

well i used to have one 2 years or so ago, it just mounts as
a harddisk, you have to create your own directories on there
and stuff the songs in. dont think they changed that. i have
a 30 gb video ipod now (spilt beer over the iriver, traded
it for the ipod because i still had warranty bizniz to cover
'defects'), i like it a lot. interface looks nice, itunes i
got used to. there's a program called podplayer that lets
you extract songs from the ipod back onto a computer, in
case you didnt know.

I can't see any problems with the ipod / itunes dealio, to
be honest.
Are some people just slow??

is slow, YES!

I really can't see what the problem is!

How many are you deleting? Can't you do it as a smart
playlist or something?

honestly are you running itunes on a windows 95 machine or
something? i've got it on my crappy work computer and it
works well.

I have no idea either.

Most of the time I hear people complain about itunes putting
their files in folders in a certain way and they rather want
to store the files the way they like. Ok, you could go to
options and unclick the "let itunes decide where to put your
files" option, or something similar. What's the deal? I
think itunes is a delight. Working with the library and
playlists the way it does.

cword, good luck with your iriver

agreed, using winamp to tag my collection was a pain in the
balls. if i started working on my collection of music now
with itunes, i probably could have taken care of it all in a
few weeks time instead of 2-3 fucking months...esp with the
find the album art thing too...even if all of the stuff i do
own isn't on itunes, i wouldn't have to drag it on every
f*cking file...and i'd only have to find like maybe a
handful of albums instead of all of them

itunes used to be fine, but it's a bit of a hassle these
days transferring shit to the ipod...

see, i guess thats all im really saying here. itunes (the
newest version) is making me hate my ipod. i wish there was
a way around using itunes. i wish i had a rabbit in a hat
with a bat.

I'm satisfied with this one. Not as eyecandyish like
the iPod Nano, but it's cheaper and you transfer files just
by dragging files and folders in Windows Explorer.

I didn't have any problems with my iPod Mini with iTunes,
batch deletion and transfer worked like a dream.

select a song then shift click somewhere else in the list to
select a load to delete

double click a playlist to open it in a new window then u
can drag between playlists

if theres no tags on your mp3s ie just a filename the only
place you will be able to find is under the 'all songs' bit

i have an oldish iTunes but if theyve changed any of the
above theyve gone bonkers

i hate having to use itunes to put fuiles in my ipod, but
just because itunes it's a resource hog, there must be some
software to add songs to the ipod that's not itunes, i know
there are plugins out there for different mp3 players
butthere none for foobar (i think) so...
other than that it's great!

cword:
-you probably have the 'sync my ipod automatically or
something selecte, check the preferrences, make it so that
the ipod is seen as a hard drive.

-you can certainly delete several files at once... crtl and
shift keys man! windows 101!

I also haven't updated my itunes (why would i? who uses
itunes for other purposes than sending files to the ipod
anyway ; ) so maybe this advice is uotdated... meh

While I'm perfectly happy with my Sony after almost a year.
Sonic Stage can be a bit of a bitch sometimes, but it's
usually fine.
Go Sony next time.

When I had an ipod (before it died in the arse after 2
years) I did find some problems with itunes.

- certain tracks just didn't want to transfer
- even when numbered/listed correctly, some albums (mp3s)
wouldnt transfer in the correct order

but worst of all...

- you can not use itunes on multiple computers with the one
ipod!

This, to me, is a FUNDEMENTALLY FATAL FLAW

external hard drive and drag and drop to it?

download a program called anapod explorer... it will let you
drag and drop, upload/download mp3s from other computers.
just keep the install file on your ipod and you can install
it to whatever pc you need to get mp3s to/from. its pretty
good but it costs money. torrents.

i really am gobsmacked at how people can have so many
problems with itunes and ipod, i just plug mine in and it
syncs with whatever group of albums i want on there (in a
playlist folder). If i want to delete songs i select what i
want to delete and use apple/delete and wow, the are
deleted... is it really that difficult for some people. If
your problem is with shitty windows, get a mac, they aren't
that expensive these days.

as for mp3 player, personally i don't think there is a
better mp3 player on the market right now, i've got the 8gb
Black nano and nothing else comes close

fuck itunes up the ass and change the firmware on your ipod.

http://www.rockbox.org/

with that the ipod just appears as a drive where you drag in
your music files.

Not to mention it supports ogg/flac/gapless etc, has games

it saps battery power a little quicker but its getting
better

i had no problems with my ipod for about a year and a half,
but then it just kind of went defunct when i installed the
new version of itunes onto my computer and i was never able
to revive it..and even though i paid extra money for
applecare, they would not fix it because it had a tiny ding
in the back which had nothing to do with what went wrong
with my ipod (the ding had been there for about 8 months,
during which time it worked perfectly).

I got one of those Nike+ kits for my iPod. It's really good,
anyone else got one of these?

It is essentially a glorified pedometer / stopwatch, but
only £19 so I can't complain.

How do I play the tracks on a tape in random order? The only
way I see to do it by by searching and/or pushing the
reverse direction, but I always end up in the middle of a
song. Quite annoying.

second. ;)

same with me... im pretty sure ipods are just build to pop
after a year and half

they probably even have timers in them

or perhaps apple just have a button they press to destroy
the last batch of ipods just as they bring out some new
fancy version

those fruity twats.
