Feels as if I've searched the whole net for a compatible compressor, but I can't find anything!
So could everyone help me with a good freeware MP3/WAV/whatever-compressor that compresses, for instance, wav:s to MP3:s in a 192-224 format (or higher), for instance? (and perhaps mp3:s to wav, etc ...)
Thanks!

Tolstoyed, the one you recommended ("this one works nice for me") - is it only possible to use it five times, before you have to pay for it?

you need the lame encoder, everybody uses it: http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php also you need a 'frontend' for this to make it work, i use: http://www.dors.de/razorlame/index.php

you can also use Foobar as a shell for lots of different command line encoders(mp3,aac,flac,vorbis,speex,wavpack and others). It can be a bit tricky to set up the parameters at first but I like how it all works in one program

for the latest lame version go here
there's also a small app you can use as frontend. it's called lamedrop. it's the most idiotproof way to convert files (wav/ogg...and possibly even other formats like flac).

I've made a step by step guide that even retards could probably follow:
Step 1 & 2: Download, Install and run winLAME (download from here) -> http://winlame.sourceforge.net/download.php
Step 3-> Click the open folder Step 4-> Select the file(s) you want to encode, OK -> NEXT Step 5->Select the output Folder, OK -> NEXT Step 6->Select default, NEXT Step 7->Select either constant, or variable bit rate and the quality setings you want (and I always use Q0 under algorithm quality too), NEXT
Step 8->Click the Play button, they'll encode
done.

It's free BTW. I cannae believe you "searched the whole net for a compatible compressor" though. I typed "free wav to mp3 converter", first result is a review site listing all the freeware mp3 encoding tools.

My net's pretty small. :)
Anyway, thanks for the retard-step-by-step-guide. I'm quite worthless with some programs, so ... :D

I use LAME with the Razorlame interface and it is superb. I then use "mp3 tag tools" for labelling.
I like it when the best bits of software for a job are free.
