Live shows finally. Any tips?

I've just gotten around to saving up for a new laptop, an
AKAI MPD 24, and an M-Audio O2 Slimline. JUST Ordered. I
think all I have for software is FL Studio 6+. So, can
anyone recommend software and really any tips that will get
me started? I don't want to do gay battles or shit. I just
want to be able to set the hard parts of tracks on play, use
the O2 to play the melody parts live, and use the MPD for
controlling levels and effects. Then in between synth
sequences I can pick up the drum sticks and bust out live
beats where possible, all while Andy plays guitar and sings
the vocals over it.

The shows will be sick, I just need some advice. :D Thanks,
and I'm really pumped.

I'm glad youre taking that direction!!! It's going to be
grand. Please record it when you perform.

Just remember not to be boring on stage, thats my best word
of advice. Music should be entertaining. Especially for the
people who are watching it.

Oh, don't worry about us being boring. At our acoustic
shows, we totally have huge smiles on, showboat each other
constantly and really interact with the crowd. :D I don't
mean to brag, but together, Andy and I are a really great
team at getting people to laugh and smile, even without
music.

check the standard - ableton live. for mixed sessions
(instrumental musicians, vocalist, computer) there isn't any
better software.

it gives you a few great options:

1. you can send midi from your o2 keyboard thru it so you
can bind a "record" button to one of the buttons on the 02.
when you are playing live you can just play some live
melodies that come to your mind and, when you got some neat
line figured out, you just press the record button, hit tje
keys and it loops from this time over and over again.

i usually do it the other way round though. i first record a
melody on a track with a bassline plugin, then switch to a
pad, record another line there and then change to a third
track with some synth where i can play live things. doesn;t
have to be asynth really, you can add some preset for some
ocean-wave noises or hum or whatever.

2. send the vocals and the guitars thru ableton (if you have
a proper sound card) you can add some reverbs or delays life
to them or cut them up with some granular vst thingies.

3. you can also record a part of the vocal for example and
cut it up a little bit with envelopes to use it as a loop
adding to your drums

4. you can use your mpd to record drumloops like with the
keyboard above.

5. on some of the presets on the mpd you can put some "one
shot" smaples like, dunno maybe one of those classic dub
sirens or whatever and bind the faders to sends with delays
and reverbs. add a huge delay and hit the buttons.

Doing live shows is just an excuse to meet girls anyway

Yeah. :D
I've taken it easy the past few weeks and all of a sudden
girls are flocking to me. It's totally weird because I don't
really see what they like about me, but I have to say I like
it. Hopefully I can find one and stick with her at least a
little while.

Live shows are odd. If youre not a full blown experimental
band, with 10 members, it's more about giving people what
they wan't.

People (myself included) go to a concert to have a good
time, and have a nice experience.

I just hate bands that get up on stage and look into their
shoes and doesnt say a word to the audience. It's BORING.
They look like they bore themselves. Keep me out of it!!!

Even if you make melancholic music, there are still lots of
possibilities for you to make the show interesting.

Dress up for the occasion. Not your nicest sweater or some
shit like that. YOU ARE ENTERTAINERS!!! Dress up as a
sunflower or a transvestite zombie or something.

Throw something out to the audience. Drum sticks, lollypops,
condoms, whatever. Use your imagination.

Let the audience know that you're feeling the music
yourself. Why the fuck should they start dancing if youre
not? Who cares if you loose your breath and sing like shit.
Getting into it, is what it's all about.

yeah live show totally works on girls.

every time there is always at least one bitch coming to me
saying:"could you play maybe some more danceable music?"

and they are not even hot ! because hot girls now that they
aren't allowed to talk shit to oyu while you are playing !

i think i'll cover myself with poo from this time.

We started out last time all of us with Ring Pops. Andy
says. "Good evening. Allow me to introduce us. I am Andy
Cubrich, I'll be lending out my voice this evening. To my
right is Jon Smith on meldoica and guitar. *drops silent*
Yes. Jon. Smith. Dumb name huh? And to the rear we have Sam
Clegg, on bongos. (or something like that). then we all pull
out our ring pops and he says. "And together, with our
powers combined we are....ANDY CUBRICH!" And we all struck
our ring pops togethered, they shattered and we all turned
to face the audience with a tear in our eyes and lips
quavering then immediatly proceeded to eat what was left.
Halfway through the show I reache dinto the bag I bought and
just tossed out ring pops at everyone. It wa slike 30, 40
people crammed into a living room of a house. Great.

i think theres few things stupider than someone doing a gig
in a 'wacky' outfit, i've seen it god knows how many times
and frankly it makes you look like a prick. if you have to
sit still and concentrate and not jump about in a daffodil
outfit to make good music, then just do that. as long as
they can see youre enjoying yourself thats fine. IMO

what you say. I like outfits.

well, in all honesty, I'd do a show naked Just for shock
factor. But I'm not a metal player or electro industrial. So
I can't really take belchies advice either and set myself on
fire.
