serious question: what attracts you (or anyone else who
cares to answer) to death metal? What makes you listen to
it? What about it do you like? I just can't connect to it
at all.

I listen to black metal and some death metal(mostly late
80's stuff). I listen to it because I like it. It has a nice
atmosphere to it and some really expressional vocals. The
vocals are an acquired taste I guess though, kind of like
opera.

fair enough, but i cant see how it can have a "nice"
atmosphere........ it's grating and angry.

But I can understand the attraction to the vocals..... as a
somewhat aquired taste.

Morbid Angel- Covenant \M/

Some death metal can be pretty atmospheric and vivid. Early
Emperor has some pretty good textures and compositions and
shit. It's pretty thoughtful.

''Grating and angry'' can be cool by itself, anyway, for
obvious reasons. Rock out. And the death vocals definitely
grow on you, I've become a big fan of that stuff, I used to
turn my nose up at it.

Of course you're right, but......... you know...... really?
I'm always astounded when someone says they like Death
Metal......

But, anyhow, feel the love, my Death Metal Brothers and
Sisters.

What do you think of the ''tamer'' kinds of metal?

I did go through a Judas Priest stage when I was a
youngster, and would you classify Led Zepplin as metal
(cause I'm a fan)

And bits of Metallica rock, but the whole Death Metal thing
elludes me....

If it's a quiet, lazy Sunday afternoon, and your relaxing
with the partner of choice, what Death Metal do you put on
if you want to just chill? It just seems a little
one-dimensional.

offline Taxidermist from Black Grass on 2006-11-17 00:39 [#02003498]

Mastadon
Slayer
Dimu Borgir
Danzig
Meshuggah

that's like saying "what breakcore do you put on to chill"

or "what ambient music do you put on to get you psyched up"

death metal fans listen to sunn O))) and boris when they
want to chill out

ban Death-Metal worldwide!

I used to like it a lot for some reason. The only band i
still really love is Ulver. They are fucking brilliant. Not
straight death metal tho, they do a lot of stuff. But the
album "nattens madrigal" is pure lo-fi death metal, and it's
very good.

Apart from that, i used to like stuff like:
Burzum
Darkthrone
Gorgoroth
Mayhem
Immortal

I sold those cd's, and moved on. It was sort of a phase for
me.

Akitsa
Armagedda
Atomizer
BURZUM

DARKTHRONE
Fornication
Furze
Gorgoroth
Horna
Haat
Ildjarn
Immortal (well, I only like their suffocate demo and
diabolical fullmoon mysticism)
Isengard
Judas Iscariot
Khold
Krieg
Moonblood
Must Missa
Profanatica
Ulver
Vlad Tepes
Warloghe

Mayhems first stuff is also good. CHAINSAW GUTSFUCK! Storm
is also great, norwegian folksongs in a more metal style,
with the help of Kari Rueslaatten.

I forgot, Moonsorrow.

I still like Finntroll a lot, because they are simply fun
listening to. You feel like growing a beard, and go out in
the woods and hunt some orcs.

most death metal is kinda cheesey. the first darkthrone
album was alright though, or some of the earlier earache
stuff.

grinds a much better take on the extremeness... stupids,
OLD, old napalm, old carcass, agathocles, SOB, intense
degree, deviated instict newer stuff like lightning bolt
too... love it - all on me itunes :)

I'm almost purely patriotic when death-metal is concerned:

Antigama
Nyia
Yattering
Meshuggah

I also like some stuff that Morbid Angel have put out.
Mostly the albums that are disliked by the true fans, like
Formulas Fatal to the Flesh.

my favorite death metal ever = Carcass

Sadistik exekution, dude it have so many years since I've
not heard that name, their first album had some funny tunes

Nattens Madrigal, awesome black metal album, intense stuff

Formulas Fatal to the Flesh also is a rocking good metal
album

lately I only listen to Arcturus, that is the last "metal"
band that I really care
