it's just gone really dark and you can't read anything. but
you can still write on xlt cause xlt is magic and you don't
need to see what you're writing. i understand.

please report your status further on.

and drink some red bull meanwhile.

bummer.. do you have an monitor you can hook it up to in the
meantime?

I had a perfectly working HP NC8000 up til march of this
year, and the day I was moving out of my old apartment it
was knicked (while I was helping to pack up stuff for my
mate up the road who was also moving). Worse than that, my
younger brother had left me his laptop to reinstall windows
on, that was knicked as well.

and worse still. 2 months later when I unpacked the final
box from moving, I had a realisation that the headphones
that I thought were in the box, must have actually been in
my laptop bag that was stolen with the laptops.. and what
headphones were those.. my Sennheiser HD590's - I'd had them
for 9 years and they were in perfect knick. It was, shall we
say, the final kick in the nuts.

i recently bought a macbook, and next thing you know....they
bring out the next generation macbooks the day my book is in
my mailbox. luckily, they take it back for free AND give me
a new one AND give me some money in return. the new ones are
slightly cheaper, even though they're better equiped
(faster, more memory, etc). lol

This happened to my younger brother. His laptop screen kept
on turning off.. then i realised that the screen was
actually still on, just the backlight was going off.

Then i realised that there was a problem with the hinge
switch which detects when the lid is closed.

Then i realised that this switch was all gummed up with
something gooey.

Then i rang my brother and when I asked him why this might
be the case, he suddenly "remembered" that he has spilled
hot chocolate all over the laptop.

This i really do not believe. Given that all these
computers, macs or not, are made from much the same
components. All these components are pretty madly intricate.
Sometimes stuff just goes wrong.

I have heard so many arguments about this, I have seen so
many computers go tits up.. and that goes for macs and
non-macs. Stick with what you are used to and good at.

I'd love to go linux but I just know that i'd waste a tonne
of time feck arsing around. Although I'm not writing much
music anyway.

Just remember:

No matter what computer system you own, always, ALWAYS, back
up your data. All computers are run on hard drives. Hard
drives will fail, sooner or later. You never know when it
will happen. So back up.

Data that is not stored in at least 2 places DOES NOT EXIST.
