while we're in the best of mood

what were the best pop songs of 2006?

note here, that you don't have to actually think the song
was any good, just that it was better than the
others.

for me: Gnarls Barkley - Crazy

I live in my own cultural bubble and don't get exposed to
pop music that much. I seem to remember that the new Justin
Timberlake hits sounded quite fresh though

wow, we have very different taste. I thought Gnarls Barkley
was one of the worst songs to come out this year.. But to
each his own :)

I enjoyed:
Keane- Is it any wonder
Snow Patrol - Hands Open
Hawthorne Heights - Saying Sorry

I didn't like it either... :(

It only succesfully made me want to listen to some good old
soul records.

Marvin Gaye
Solomon Bourke
David Ruffin
Otis Redding
Barry White
Isaac Hayes
etc. etc.

I think this has been a bad pop song year... But I kinda
like Peter Bjørn & John "Young Folks". It was B or C listed
on the national Norwegian radio's playlist actually, so it
counts... Best "alternative" pop song so far must be Junior
Boys "So This Is Goodbye".

Pop was way better last year.........amerie 1 thing, for
instance... classy stuff!

And, yeah, Asobi Seksu has some decent songs on their
"Citrus" longplay...with "Thursday" beeing the most poppy of
them. Beautiful song, indeed.

Gnarls Barkley- Just a Suggestion (i think thats the correct
title. " and so ive tried everything but suicide, but its
crossed my mind" ) I kind of like this tune.

Ludacris & Pharell- Shake your moneymaker
(it gets real repetative but if remixed I bet it'd fuckin
own, Pharell has good beats)

Fergie- London Bridge
(if you cut the chorus out it'd be much better, the chorus
doesnt make much sense, the chorus also reminds me of Kids
Bop type music)

Gwen Stefani- her style has changed at rapid pace since
Fergie became popular in BEP and it seems like she's
attempting more and more to be Fergie. maybe she feels
threatend. (I dont really know, it just seems to be whats
going on to me anyway. )

Justin Timberlake- The album is fucking aweful. especially
lyrically he has a lyric " Dont play me like a silly clown "

and sexxyback kind of sounds like call and response work to
me which would leave it having a Homosexuality type of a
vibe to it if you hear it as call and response between
Timbaland and JT. (I.E. the chorus JT: go head b go with it

Timbaland: Come here girl JT: go head b go with it
Timbaland: you make me smile JT: go head b go with it
Timbaland: Come here child.) and JT has a femanine
distortion put to his voice. I dont think he is gay but the
song really really really comes across that way.

Gnarls Barkley - Crazy is indeed a great song.. but like a
lot of other good pop songs it got aired way too much which
kind of spoils the magic touch it has.
Justin Timberlake - My Love is a great song as well. I love
the combination of genres.

Nah, that fergie lass hasn't got an original bone in her
body...

London Bridge rips the chorus from 'hollaback girl' and the
verses from 'tipsy' by j-kwon...

offline Babaouo from Dolce (Monaco) on 2006-11-09 05:52 [#01999436]

that song maybe. but I'm talking Gwens Solo vs Fergie even
in BEP not just the solo and theyve been around since before
her solo.

(I believe.)

neither of them are very original.

They had a hit with that one, but an even bigger one with
"white horse". They didn't play much in the USA, because
people thought they where black, and would be dissapointed
to see 2 happy and pale danish guys.

Beyonce - check on it too, proper slick. Oh yeah, and
there's a track by up hygh called "love dat", not even sure
if it came out this year and the vocal is fucking terrible,
but the instrumental is one of the best minimal pop
productions i've ever heard, so funky.

I'd also have to vote "Bossy" by Kelis. I like the
drugged-up sound and the funny lyrics. Reminds me of a good
"Laffy Taffy."
I despise "Crazy" but it's nothing compared the resurgence
of the Black Eyed Peas. Worst music this year by far! They
did do "That's the Joint" though, right? I "used to" like
that song.
