Talk About Music and You.

In general, I don't like to talk much about music with
anyone. Not because I hate music, but because it would
usually end up like a "who's cooler than who" conversation.
I think that people who start out conversations with, or
even try to throw in the topic of, "Hey what kind of music
do you like," come across as [Wow, my music's better than
yours] type of thing.
I don't want to be an ass, I don't want other people to be
an ass(es). So I just avoid it.

Also, I can listen to anything now a days and enjoy it.
Really, I've grown to enjoy the work behind music and that's
what I listen for now. I don't care about styles. I realized
this at work the other day after it hit me that they play
the same radio station over and over with "Oldies" and
"Timeless Classics from the 60's and 70's". A few years ago
I would have said, "Yo, fuck this shit." But now, I can just
appreciate it like all other music. Which leads to me
becoming bored, overall with music itself. Sure, I'll still
enjoy listening to stuff, but it won't ever be as exciting
as it was when I was really into it the past 5 or 6 years of
my life.

Fin.

I can't get that feeling anymore lately. It'll come back I'm
sure, but I'm just not feeling it. The Excitement of New

i just listen to whatever fetches my interest, really...
continually looking for new stuff as well, of course. not
the most discerning and certainly not the least discerning,
i still have my reservations that i'll probably never shed
completely. thorough love for music, though. lately i've
been enjoying califone and jolie holland a lot, even though
i've been listening to them for a good while. there's
something about those two right now that are just perfect.

it's impossible to say what makes music appealing, or what
music really IS anyway, in terms of defininiton. a lot of
people seem to shut themselves in with a couple of genres
and never really expand on that because they feel it's a
safeground. it possibly has a lot to do with their social
interaction and grouping as well. then there's the debate on
where the line goes for what is music and what is sound
experimentation/noise, and if there even is supposed to be a
line drawn there... personally, i think so, but it's hard
for me to classify. oh well, blabla, i'm uninteresting.

music is great, it enhances my life!

For everyone it does! :D I just think about it differently
now. And a lot of that is thanks to XLTRONIC. Haha.

"electro hip hop and acid" brings a sound to my head of
corrugated washing sounds with blubbery beats at 110 bpm. I
kind of want to hear it. I mean to really hear what I have
in my head. It's always better than what I end up making,
ahaha!

I got in a chat with a guy cause i wore an IDM t shirt the
other day, and at first i thought cool, I dont talk about
this much these days, but he proceeded to tell me lots of
facts about aphex twin that 1. i knew and 2. knew to be
false, , and he very much tried to make himself feel cool,
and it wasnt a good conversation at all.

so youre right, it is a poor topic of conversation unless by
chance you have a lot to talk about, and even then maybe
not.

I think i like a wide range of music, what really turns me
off music is when its so scene based that you feel you cant
enjoy it without somehow subscribing to the ideals of it. my
friend bought a Kiss sweatband the other day and the guy at
the shop tried to talk to him about kiss but it transpired
that my friend knows maybe 4 or 5 Kiss songs, and he thought
it was odd that he was expected to be a kiss fan. this
irritated me, that people actually take namedropping or
fashions associated with a music scene more than actually
enjoying the music, but anyway staz and swift did an
interesting garbled rant so heres mine

I definitely don't avoid talking about music, it's the best
way to find out about new stuff. And exchange of opinion is
good. There are lots of people that are just genuinely
interested in the music and not just namedropping. Though of
course there are a lot of egoists with not much of substance
to say about the music.

Really, I've grown to enjoy the work behind music and
that's
what I listen for now. I don't care about styles

Unless you mean something else, I differ again here. I like
learning about the styles and their roots and the people
that pioneered them. And the people and other styles that
inspired the pioneers. Music for me is more than just
enjoyment of sound, I like the whole mythos and history and
everything. Which is why I'll never avoid talking about it,
people have interesting things to say beyond arbitrary
lists.

Suffer, that helped me thru a lot of rough highschool
years.
What usually bugs me is when people start to hate on music
that they previously loved. Im not saying that its bad to
stop listening to it, but dont be disrespectful regardless
of how bad it sounds to you now.
At one point in time this music was a part of your life, and
meant something to you. so dont go and cheapen your roots or
anyone elses who happens to be musically where you were a
few years ago. Its like that old smiths song rubber ring

"But dont forget the songs
That made you cry
And the songs that saved your life
Yes, youre older now
And youre a clever swine
But they were the only ones who ever stood by you"

Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, PWEI, NewFADS and other
provincial scallywags.

i don't usually talk about music when it goes in that
direction..i mean, i try not to talk about music with people
who only know music mtv gives them.
i don't care about styles either. if it's good i'll listen
to it..i started listening quite different in a way. i think
i 'understand' music in a different way than before..i think
it has to do with me reading about music in general much
more. before i would more or less just listen, which was
nice but i was definitelly missing out on stuff.

of course its a poor topic of conversation, it's in the same
memetic class as religion. You fools are so caught up in the
human illusion you dont see musics true form as a sort of
parasite taxing and wasting your brains resources for the
musics own selfish replication. some things happen to have
properties that entertain brains in the fertile neurosphere
more than others. Some of the worst ones now are internet
humor things replicated through email/myspace etc (funny
flash/youtubes/etc). the people who replicate these
basically have a mental disease. The best way to stay
mentally healthy is to only think about poop since it is the
only thought hard wired to brains and therefore natural 2
think about, never listen to music and never eat tacos
