Does anyone happen to have the sheet music for Lou Reeds
Perfect Day? I'm trying to write it down, and I'm well on my
way.. I don't want the sheet music; I want to try to finish
it myself, but I'd like to know if I'm actually on the right
path. In other words, I'd be much obliged if someone
happened to have the sheet music and wouldn't mind comparing
my version with the "official" one.

also, this is the first song I'm trying to write down as
notes; I've never had any training at neither hearing nor
writing, which is why I chose such an easy song. Just in
case anyone's wondering.

Lou Reed just played here about three nights ago, I should
have shot him when I had the chance. I think I only like 2-3
of his songs, maybe.

yeah, he's got lots of bullshit going on, but I just want a
nice and easy song so that I can get better at stuff like
this.. originally I was just going to listen through and try
to play it, but I figured it'd be even better if I tried
writing it down so that I got some skill in that too...

But is it that difficult? It's just listening and comparing.
Even tho i don't know THAT much about music theory, i could
probably nail it down.

well, first off it can be hard telling just which chord is
being played of even if it actually is a chord or
just resonance. secondly, since the song is 6/8, it's just
slightly more challenging than straight up 4/4 notation.
Third, if you don't know notes, you'd probably have a bit of
a hassle even with something as easy as this.

Well, i just figured, compared to the quality music you
produce, this should be easy peasy.

haha, thanks, I guess, but it's different when you do it
backwards. When I make music, I know which note is which.
When I'm listening to a song (I don't have perfect pitch), I
have no idea if it is an A or an Eb or whatever, so I need
to use the piano, but even then it can be hard to hear if
the thing being played is a straight up F chord or if it's
only playing the two upper notes while the bass is doing the
F or if there's any other configuration of the notes.. there
are also.. I don't know the english terminology, but I'd
call it overtones.. like, when you play a C on your piano,
it has overtones of the C and F one octave above it and many
more notes after that. When you play a chord, even more
overtones are created in the harmony between the notes in
the chord, etc etc. There's also trouble if the song isn't
very well mixed or if it's an mp3 and shit like that...

Ah... then i know what you're talking about.

Overtoner.

I remember that from piano lessons.

I would even say, oftentimes, it's there the magic is made

I also never had piano lessons... I've had no musical
training whatsoever. I taught myself how to play the piano
somewhat and I taught myself how to read sheet music.

Piano lessons is all about learning shit other people wrote.
There's about 5% worth your while, then it's up to you. I
felt i was fed up by it, so i moved on. This day, i forgot
all the tunes i learned. I can play chords to bob dyland,
and clumsily play "axel foley theme". Be happy you didnt
spend money on it, i'm certain youre more qualified than
most in music making (well, your music speaks for itself)

well, much of what you're learning isn't playing the stuff
other people wrote, but the techniques. I'm probably limited
by my poor technique when it comes to playing...

Well, finger positioning and all that was pretty usefull i
guess. But after lessons i got back to my sequencer and
thought "why?"

Just add some shuffle, and make the notes randomly lover and
higher, it's the same.

Well, i can imagine thats why i'm so fond of vocals in
music. It just gives it that human edge, even if it's the
most strict electronic music.
