redundancy & uncertainty

well, i'm being made redundant on December 15th, and so far
i've been unsuccessful at finding equivalent employment.
i've applied for the only 3 internal positions i'm qualified
for and have been turned down for every single one. my only
method of transport is my feet, so i cannot apply for jobs
that are a bit further out from Burton (for example
Uttoxeter or Derby, public transport is too expensive and
unreliable). i will be continuing to look for other work
locally, but as i have to vacate my current accomodation by
contract on 31st December, it looks like i may have to leave
Burton altogether and move back to my mother's house in
Widnes. the only way i'd be able to stay in Burton is if i
could get a job that pays equivalent to what i'm on now
(£15,500) since my monthly outgoings would consist of loan
repayments, rent on property, utility bills. i have done the
math and found that i would hardly be able to afford food.

since i will not have much access to the net in Widnes i
more than likely will not be able to come online again (i
know this will pain you all, especially dog_belch).

anyways, i just wanted to fill you all in on the current
situation i'm facing at the moment in case anyone was
bothered why that annoying little cunt oscillik wasn't
around or something

Sorry to hear abou that, it's never nice having to struggle
to find work and pay bills, when you haven't any savings and
you're just living week by week.

What's the state of your fucking hair at the moment, is that
holding you down the career ladder?

what a bummer. being in that position is something i am
terrified of.
not just because i would be struggling to feed myself, but
because it would mean that my 4 years of university would
have been a total waste of time. i bloody hope i get a
decent job sorted out before i finish uni.

I would offer you my spare room but I just don't want to :)

You could always get into online porn. That would pay your
bills. Paid mine when I got made redundant.

dog_belch

thanks, yeh it' not nice. my hair was Purple, until the day
they told us we're being made redundant, and i immediately
got it all shaved off. it's now my natural colour and around
2mm long

Ezkerraldean

whatever you do, don't take out a loan if you can help it.
it's times like this that i really really wish i hadn't. it
wouldn't be too bad if i didn't have to pay £200 a month on
repayments, but i do.

hope your education wont go to waste mate

danbrusca

heh with my stick-thin quality i think i'd only cater to
Marylin Manson fetishists

one of the most annoying things about stuff like that is
that usually you aren't in any way to blame for being fired,
you were just born after other people who work in the
company (they have ancienty which gives them rights opposed
to you) or your position isn't needed any more, or something
like that...

for my situation it's a classic case of the government
wanting to "inject" jobs into Bangor, Wales and my company
is being given funding to procure jobs for the locals there.
hence they've got offices at some complex building and are
moving all remote fix functions over to there, in the
process stomping on those of us who have been here for two
years and who can't afford to

1) relocate to Bangor
2) take the pay drop that is incurred by taking the job
available in Bangor
3) doesn't like the prospect of working 24 hour
shifts
support products globally, needing to learn other
languages, and all this on a lower wage than i am
currently.

not to mention the fact that on 24 hour shifts i'd NEVER get
any music done.

the pay is shit in north wales, as it is here. i was on
£4.80 an hour and most of my friends considered that a
pretty good wage for a part-time job. if you live in a
half-decent area (i.e. within 100 miles of london) don't go.

i would probably get paid an extra quid an hour if i did the
same job in the south east!

i know the pay anywhere is shit, but considering that the
main reason i'm on £15,500 at the moment is because our
shifts are from 8am-10pm

considering Bangor is 24 hour shifts, the wage should be
higher than what i'm on. not lower.

and the fucking company isn't even offering any help to
relocate

Noooo, I don't mean be a porn star. Set up some sites and
stuff. That's where the money is.

so, are you saying that i wouldn't make it as a porn star?

i wouldn't have the knowhow, or the business head on my
shoulders to be able to "pull it off"

i'm not a boss, or a manager, or something like that.

i'm a lowly worker

good luck with getting your shit together

(and don't ever say you're a lowly worker. just fake it,
till you make it. that's how the non-lowly workers made it.
they're just as lowly, and sometimes even more. they just
know how to conceal it)
