started my line too early
tried to cut back left, scrub speed, cut back right into
line
hit tarmac
understeered like crazy w/ too much speed anyways
oh well

processing the note too late
coming in too hot

losing grip + init. understeer, duh.

rephlex stickers soon.

Nasty. Looking at the surface I'd of taken it slower/wider
on the way in and made up for it by being able to gas it
sooner on the way out. Still, easy to say that after seeing
the crash. ;) Glad you're unhurt and hope you get the car
sorted. Surface changes on the approach to/exit from bends
are an absolute swine. UK roads departments are completely
incompetent in this respect and regularly put shellac down
far too close to the bend where you're stil slowing down (on
the way in, or still turning/accelerating on the way out)
and it unsettles the car badly as you hit it, negating any
grip benefit confered. IMO It'd be better to have a worse
surface, that was at least consistent.

On a bike the effect is even worse as you turn in sooner and
are usually still lent over as you exit the bend and the
back can step out as it hits the low grip surface.

Oh yes, "Driving like that, you'll get yourself killed.
Don't you care about your life? Don't you respect life at
all? People like you are so dangerous and make me sick."
Rant, rant, bitch, bitch.

The health and safety brigade do my head in. :D

You could very easily have killed a squirrel.

I'm going to slow down the footage to dead slow and have SAW
II play over the top as some sort of art statement.

ceri, there was nothing i could do.

we were pushing ultra hard that stage (it was a 1 lane road
(logging/mining road) tight, twisty, trees/birms a few feet
from the car

the road just opened up into this Left 4, we were carrying
too much speed, (there is no way around it, no matte what,
it was simply too much speed).

i processed the note late (when you rally, you get weird
tunnel vision and processing the notes is strange , i cant
explain it) anyways i was a little behind, i was like oh
shit

this all happend in like 1-2seconds, i did/thought:
-start line into corner
-realized im going too fast, shit
-still got a bit of room before the apex so i quick jerk it
left to scrub off speed (if this was an all gravel turn, i
would do this to do scandinavian flick around corner, weight
shifting, sscrubbing speed, etc).
-jerk it left, then jerk it back right real quick to make
line.
-when i jerked it back right, the car didnt turn at all. i
was at this point on top of the tarmac (on gravel tires) and
dirt/dust was covering the tarmac. there was no grip at
all.
understeer,,,bam,

it's easy to say "i would have taken that corner slower" but
it's rally and you dont know what the corner looks like,
just going by whats in the notes and when you're going too
fast, nothing will save you.

now that i watch the video a bunch of times, i think my
ORIGINAL line might have worked (due to my excessive speed)
but, there was a ditch on the inside that could have caught
me out (and rolled even worse).

then again i could got just the front right tire hooked into
the ditch to "grab" the car ... that would have been great,
but keep in mind this isnt an AWD car

still fun :)

I'm sure I couldn't take it as fast as you and I know that
when you're pushing it, there's little chance to plan. The
line I described is how I'd take it at speed on a public
road. :)
Congratulations on doing so well up until the crash BTW.

dog_belch:
Drop the "Now we're ready to die" sample from Christ's
"Absolom for Lucy" over the top and you've got yourself some
grade A artwank.

Oh yes and hooking a wheel into the ditch to use it as a
rail would be awesome. I've seen dirt bikes do this on hill
climbing- hook the front over a raised edge of a course and
just drift the back the whole way round. :D

You just got the corner totally wrong. You entirely
misjudged the apex. Had you have continued your orignal
line (baring in mind you had already began steering left
before the car enters camera shot) you would have been in
the trees on the inside. You can even see the racing line
on the video, it's way different than your approach.

Looks fun though :)

Points: 18368 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

ya, well.

alls it takes is 1 stupid mistake.
the reason we started way off line is because i came into
the previous corner (4 Left) way too fast, so that put me on
the outside (right hand side of the road) and i was trying
to get over left to start the proper line, but there was too
little distance between the 4L and the right turn i crashed
on. i couldnt get the car back over to the left side of the
road.
