Advice on Buying a Mic

Hi, I'm planning on buying a mic, I found which
sounds good, and it's only £100, but I don't wanna
blow a wad on something that turns out to be rubbish. It's a
RV8 Large Diaphragm Microphone, a condenser mic...

They don't list any of the specifications on the page. Its
big selling point is that fact that it "will deliver results
comparable to products costing considerably more". I don't
know much about microphones, but I do know that with any
music gear, you get what you pay for. And when you pay less
than you should expect on a per feature basis for something,
you end up getting lower quality. With microphones, the
first thing they should be listing (IMO) are specifications
(signal to noise, frequency response, etc) so you know what
kind of sounds you are going to be able to record with it.

Having said that, do you have a good microphone preamp and
mixer/audio interface/AD converters? Because if you end up
buying a quality microphone, and use cheap materials to
record with, it might as well be a cheap computer
microphone.

Behringer C-2 gives you 2 condenser mics for not lots, but
you will need phantom power. They're tiny too.

Yeah, but then you have to buy behringer, giving you a 50%
chance it will stop working the day after the warrantee runs
out.

Well, we've used them both twice now live, the C-2s and a
mixer, and they've worked fine.

Behringer mixers suck. Cheap components to cut down cost.
The levels on mine were uneven, and there was an extremely
nasty hiss on it anything the effect levels were turned up
slightly. Buying behringer is like gambling as to
whether your unit is going to be a good one or a bad one.

I quote from the search for my Behringer digi-delay pedal in
London yesterday:
"We don't stock Berhrinjer cos they're shooooiiiiiiit"
Butbutbut I'm not using it as a guitar pedal.....

The mixer we bought is fine.
