once the regular season is done how many teams go through to the play-offs? is it like the top two of each regional league?

But, I can tell you that at the start of the 2006 season, there were 43 MLB players from Venezuela.

There are two leagues in baseball, the American and National league, and both of those each have 3 divisions, East, Central, and West. Whoever does the best in each divison gets to go to the playoffs. Also there is a "wildcard" which is the best remaining team in each league that did NOT win the divison.
So it's 4 teams from each league, 8 teams total playing in the first round.
