Every time I try to do the yoga move "downward facing dog" he comes running into the room doing the "underscuttling cat" saying prut prut prut. I guess he can hear my breathing change when I get in that position... UNLESS IT REALLY IS YOGA RADAR scary |

Um, I'm told it's ashtanga. But I know so little it could be barney the dinosaur yoga for all I know. My wife's been giving me second hand lessons. I can feel myself getting stronger and more flexible. Sometime soon when I feel like humiliating myself I'll join her class. |

Cool! I've been practicing yoga for about 4 years now and I've found it very rewarding..... physically, mentally and, dare I say, spiritually. And don't worry about going to the class. No one pays any attention to anyone else, you are all to busy doing your own thing. After all, it's yoga...... |

Yeah, I'm liking it a lot. It's probably the best workout I've ever had. Definitely beats my old jogging / weightlifting routine, though I'm still partial to bicycling. Strangely I also find myself eating more curry these days. Next thing you know I'll start reading sanskrit. BTW, why does music for yoga suck so hard? If you want bad music find something with the word yoga on the cover. New age banjo, I kid you not. It was like a heavily sedated Bela Fleck. |

Yeah, the music can be bad. Most yoga teachers I know are stuck on New Age-ambient-panpipe releases. Either that or the mantra chanting (some of which, I must say, is ok). I guess it's hard to find something that isn't to engaging, if that makes sense. It really should be in the back-ground and shouldn't draw your attention or elicit an emotional response. I wonder if there's a market for ambient electronic noise in the yoga sub-culture? ;) The teacher I go to at the moment uses no music, which I prefer. The one I went to before this one was WAY into music. She had us dancing round the room to snake-charming music.....and she had us crawling on the floor pretending we were babies...... and we did the hokie-pokie in one class..... I don't have to explain why I left. |
