volume of quality media and information these days?

not really, I tend to fight off the download-induced
schizophrenia by picking out what I want to hear, not just
downloading everything that seems faintly interesting.

I still slip from time to time, ofcourse, fall for the ol'
mp3-zapping.

Philip Glass smells of old wee.

the Kronos Quartet smells of pine, however.

Philip Glass probably smells like a lot of things. Depends
when you catch him.

neo-classical, my friend. still, some of his stuff is pretty
engaging, surprisingly so, from the -Qatsi soundtracks to
Glassworks.

isn't that term reserved for the likes of stravinsky..?

I'd say more neo-classical than classical-classical - but
genres are tricky business as always. I personally don't
like the term "classical" to be used for works produced
after the 19th century, but that's just me.

Glass too is hard to categorize, especially in his later
works... "Minimalism" is supposedly a break from the old
scene(s), but genealogies can be drawn. For example, his
early influences include Aaron Copland and Darius Milhaud
(under whom Glass studied), who were students of Nadia
Boulanger, who in turn studied Stravinsky, Prokofjiev and
others. (wikipedia is a good help, don't think I know this
stuff off hand!)

It all goes in circles, see, like glass's melodies...

Glass is hopeless and -qatsi soundtracks are the proof of
that.
