I was contacted by a scouter on myspace that works for A&R
select. Ever heard of them? I haven't. Anyways they say
they're an agency that finds talented artists and hooks them
up with publicity/promotion to mtv/tv networks/indie
films/video game companies, prof bios, etc etc etc.

They gave me a call and we talked for a bit. Sounded very
legit, they went on and on about how great this is, and how
lucky I am for being found, and that my sound is exactly
what they're looking for in submitting to some recent
projects. And how fast the cash rolls in with royalties.
Fuck, I was being pampered over the phone. But for all these
amazing services I'll be getting, theres a price.
3 month 199USD$
6 month 299USD$
1 year 399USD$

Is this legit? They have a myspace but the link to their
site doesn't work. Do these kinds of companies charge you?
Is this how it works when you're 'discovered'?

You should NEVER hand money the other way to get stuff out
(unless you are self financing a release obviously). Please
don't fall for one of the oldest tricks in the book and
instead send me $100 every three months to stop you being
stupid :P

It sounds like bollocks.
If someone thinks you're going to make money for them,
they're not going to charge you are they? It's like average
looking girls paying thousands of pounds to fake modelling
agencies.

There were quite a few holes in the guys proposals that I'm
slowly realizing after the post-giddiness. He did get some
information out of me, like my address, but not my billing
and bank account info. That's about the time I said I'll get
back to you on that.

I make that merely 11 Scam Pings, which means it's probably
legit.

yes, it was the anime

(you should see it)

I've been trying to find all the dvd episodes because the tv
episodes are shorter and certain bloody bits are cut out,
and I got like seven dvd episodes but then the eighth was tv
and everything got mixed up...

My mate You know the band Joy Zipper? My mate basically had
a deal with their manager (who also managed indie-folksters
Turin Brakes) to release a seven inch of electro stuff,
maybe a CD album, do remixes of various indie bands,
etc...the manager didn't ask him for a penny, just hassled
him for music, told him to be at places, meet people, DJ,
stuff like that.

The fucking lazy bum blew it. Couldn't be arsed travelling
down to London (all fares paid btw) to meet industry types
and all that stuff. Huge ego, thought that somebody else
would show interest, they didn't. Now he really regrets it.

There you go, you passed the test.

I remember when I was a student some fucking Moonie
approached me saying "Hey, are you in a band?", nice
hamfisted psychological profiling homing in on the dodgy
half arsed Goth. Yeah dude, do you want me to come play your
fucking Bean Festival?

Yeah, so my buddy nearly had a deal with these guys:
Anvil Records who were a hip up and coming indie label a
couple of years back. The manager wanted to go "electro" and
had heard some tracks because he'd liked a fan remix
e-mailed to Joy Zipper.
But the lazy, ungrateful drunkard blew it.
