this year's VMAs

...pretty much summed up everything I hate about our
culture.

Yeah, let's all dress up in tuxedos and celebrate artists
who use 'new ways of making music' by awarding and
congratulating and venerating the band who created 'My
Humps.'

(oh, but they have a serious side too, remember the 9/11
song? That's the kind of sensitivity and diversity I
appreciate in my hip hop bands.)

I suppose I revealed, by creating this topic, that I
actually watch MTV on occasion.

OK: Point taken & appreciated. :)

its alright, mtv used to be worth not leaving the house
but its headed a bit downhill none the less

yes music television is good

but mtv have fucked themselves :(

yes you make a good point. The idea of music television is
very appealing.. and when it's good it's great. But trying
to wade through the current video rotation, in between
shitty celeb reality shows, is almost not worth the effort.
I mean, I may sorta like a song, but watching three hours of
offensive, boring, hellishly derivative TnA isn't worth a
mediocre three minute payoff.

we should have xlTV/ZiltyVee

didnt jessica alba host it or was that
the movie awards. in any event if the
arcade fire didnt get an award at the
vmas then the show doesnt count be
cause these wimpy emo bands suck.
rap sucks now too except project pat.

I hate it that the same 5-6 artists and videos were up for
EVERY damn award. and that Hip hop is RAP and R&B isnt far
behind that sort of asshimilation. Jack Black is a horrible
host. Missy Elliot couldnt even do something original she
had to go back to an outfit from an old video...

I have to Admit though Justin Timberlake's new style is
pretty thick and badass. a good blend of IDM production with
Pop. My girlfriend cant wait to get the CD and I cant wait
to hear parts of it as well..

I also hate that emo, punk, poppunk, alternative, rock, etc etc
IS THE EXACT SAME SHIT and it all got really whiney and
boring ..
Avenge sevenfold is bland but better than all the rest of
the new crap they have out...

James Blunt bores me.

Music which is pop inherently has more things to dislike
about it than music which isn't. This is why I don't listen
to it. Though I will sometimes turn on the radio to update
myself on the music while trying not to listen to it in a
'pop' mode.

VMAs do not do this.

how, exactly, do you categorize this fall out boy, panic at
the horseshit, chemical romance, 30 seconds to mars -type
bullshit that the kids are apparently so into ?? emo, emo
mall punk? what? it's all exactly the same

Axl made an appearence, albeit an odd one resulting from the
passage of time and botched-facial work. POW! theo NAILS it
from downtown! ..seriously though, I'm on his side.. his new
album is going to be very good.

having the raconteurs there was cool.

....what was the Mtv on 80s will happen in a new way on
2009.
now Mtv is fucked.like the i-D magazine,example.

the idea i see now in this television is:

"You look unsensible,you look photogenic"

the new idea for 2009 will be:

"You look like that you dont muthafucka care but got a good
fuckung sense,we are all photogenic"
