When I first bought my new computer a few months ago, I
could play any region DVDs using PowerDVD. Now, and I bet
one of Windows XP's updates has something to do with this,
it tells me to select a region and says I can only change it
two more times.

Does anyone know how I can stop this happening? I don't
want to commit myself to one region, I'm just not that kind
of man!

You could get a multi-region dvd player. They're easy to
find outside the united states.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I really don't want to spend
any more money right now!

I tried DVD Genie, a region-hacking program, but that didn't
work.

Why no go with one of the better FREE Dvdplaters... see
http://www.softlandmark.com/DVDPlayers.htm ... a number of
those will ignore regions...

OR....

have a look at these pages....they might help...

http://www.elby.org/RegionKiller/english/index.htm

href="http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/dvdrk.htm

href="http://www.bestdownload.com/programs.asp?dcat=Video&d
etail=513">http://www.bestdownload.com/programs.asp?dcat=Vi

or is there anyway to uninstall POWERDVD and resinstall you
orginal working version.?...again, worth a try....

Let us know how you get on & I';; have words with some tech
guys and see what we can come up with....will need details
of DVD / Disc & Ver of XP .... e me if the above don't

Every DVD code has a region code (i.e. the countires where
it can be viewed)...theres one for US, another for Europe,
another for Japan etc.....

This is so Movie Companies have some control over when &
where things get released.....i.e. US gets DVDs well before
UK (in a similar way to films)....

DVD players will only play 1 region...(altho some allow you
do bybass the rebion setting altogther)....

Blame the MPAA....
