...and i'm pretty lost in it...
It feel like a hardware-version of Fruityloops 3 or
something, but great fun nonetheless...
Is there any MC-303 owners here? Any good tips? I'm
wondering if I can use it as an external sequenser for
midi...is that possible?

I used all morning reading the manual...it's pretty hard to
learn when you're a software-user imo.

i'll post some shit when I figure it out

get a software editor for it, and make your own environment
to control it via CC's. itll be fun.
also, hard-pan everything left or right and feed left
through vstefx and right through vstefx too. youll get there
eventually

i would have thought that you can use it as a MIDI sequencer
for external gear....that's usually one of the highlights of
getting a so called "groovebox" right?

i had one... the thing is HARD AS HELL to figure out....
atleast it was for me... i ended up trading it for a reel to
reel tape deck.

it like to have have ALL the midi channels. Although it's
suppose to be hardset to require midi channel 10 if i
remember right. I didn't like that part.... the midi
implimentation on it is pretty lame

if you have a clue
the 303 is very easy to work
just make sure you ignore the hundreds of shitty preset
patterns

These things are a peice of piss! Right, switch it on, wind
the windy wheel until you get past all the preset patters to
th "U" patterns U01, U02 etc etc...these are the user
patterns and should be empty. Now to start...you have eight
different "parts" which you can put anything you like in,
though part one is just for synths if I remember correctly.
The part buttons are all marked 1 - 8 and sould be in the
middle of the 303 somewhere.....press 1 to get into part 1
of your track....put it in step sequence mode (look in the
manual) and choose a synth sound.....

Put in any sequence you like in a 16 bar loop (doesn't
matter what it sounds like at this point - your just
learning)....press play - you should heare what you've just
put in.

Now push the part 2 button. Put in a kick drum or something
by sequencing it on the keyboard a la any step sequencer
you've ever used....

Now part 3 - put in some snares....etc etc, you get the
picture?

Just fill up all 8 parts with different stuff and listen
back to it! Take out stuff you don't like etc.....that's
your first pattern in U01.....do another pattern in U02, U03
etc then you can switch between patterns at will with your
jog wheel while it plays back...

Easy.

P.S. you can mute in and out each individual part while it
plays back too for on the fly editing.....

if i remember correctly channel 1 is for rhythm parts which
can be seperated down to 8 sub tracks inside the rhythm
track so you can seperate your kick / snare / hats
etc....you can mute these individually, but you can probably
only use one kit setting accross the 8 sub parts

haven't touched one for about 8 yrs
in fact here's a 8 yr old tune on mc303 what i just put up
tokyo lucky hole
