I dont like the term "electronica" either, but its better
than "IDM" imo.

Experimental electronic music, glitch hop, trip hop hmmmm

so EEE then?

electronica is too broad a term, drill & bass is too narrow,
IDM means different things to different people. I usually
just call aphex twin-esque music "techno". Though it bugs
me to hear people refer to Paul Oakenfold as techno.
Blechh.

i just called how it sounds like. afxish rephlexish, call it
how you want, cuz no style is definied on this music. weird
pioneers of electronic music, brandance, drill'n'bass,
breakcore, xperimental, dust, chemical, rubbish, and so on
...

i tend to use the term 'electronic music'. simple and
undescriptive, genres are for journalists and historians.

OK, GEM is better. I think it's not only a good abbreviation
for this kind of music, the meaning of the word gem
describes also the music.

We must tell EVERYONE about this!
The term IDM really pisses me off though.
'Cept I've thought about it a little bit, and maybe it kind
of DOES make some sense, I guess. You can't physically
dance to it, but MENTALLY, you can...
Intellegent Dance Music, your MIND does the dancing.

thats..just a theory

"computer music". This is what scholars will refer to it as.
I bet you can even find more interesting and relevent links
in google by searching for something along the lines of
computer + music, rather than idm.

You can't use any subjective terms like "excellent" if you
want to define something with a brief summary compacted as
economically as possible into it's name. If excellent is
different for different people, than nothing is nailed down
at all.

Internet Dork Music? I don't know. The letters themselves
have no meaning to me anymore. It's not Intelligent Dance
