I like a listen of Meshuggah's "Chaosphere" and Kobong's
"Chmury nie bylo" once in a while. Loghting Bolt is also
pretty impressive. Is Ruins a Japanese take on math-rock? If
so, I don't like this one, it's amusing at first but it
wears of quickly.

it's just a fancy schmanzy name for music with lots of
shifting time signatures, etc.

most of the 'math music' I am familiar with actually falls
more into the metal category.. I really like Meshuggah and
Dillinger Escape Plan, if you'd classify them as 'math'.
it's kind of amusing really, that using that terminology to
sound cool actually ends up sounding extraordinarily nerdy:
'duuuude this shit is hella math.'

ah ok I did'nt know :)

another type of "math music" ; Conlon Nancarrow, do you know
him? ..jazzy classical, mostly composed for player-piano,
because it's way too complex for humans to execute :p
..altho' I have a cd with a chamber ensamble doing Nancarrow
stuff..

wouldn't you know it.. I had never heard of Conlon Nancarrow
until about three weeks ago when I was digging through my
parents record collection and this 'New Music' sampler vinyl
from the early 70's slid out of the case to 'The
Well-Tempered Synthesizer' (Walter/Wendy Carlos). It several
tracks, including a short Steve Reich track, but it also had
one of Conlon Nancarrow's player piano ditties on it.. my
brain practically melted it was so fast and complex. Even
more impressive that it was pre-computer. Interesting how
his player piano sheets were blueprints for the music
execution almost like modern day trackers, etc.

Thanks for reminding me :)

so is math music a term for algorithmic/process music or
just music that sounds weird and complex and junk..and uses
patterns...

battles would also lose any battle against Hella.

imo Meshuggah do a nice job, they should just kick their
singer/shouter out. Their music is an unstoppable killer
robot.

all music is math. the note intervalls and whatever are all
based on mathematical functions, eqations and what not. when
I'm making music with a softsynth I'm doing math to. when I
opening a drumloop in soundforge I'm also doing math.
