I just picked up this child's toy at a garage sale for $.50:
Image #1 | Image #2 | Image #3
It's surprisingly well-suited for short circuiting:
Audio Sample
I used a bent paper clip and my fingertips to make tese sounds. Can anyone direct me to a site that would explain how to make permanent short-circuit adjustments to this delightful instrument?

Yeah, ok. Being in the US, you have good electronics stores, lol.
First, make sure you have the following: -Soldering iron -Solder -Wire -Electric drill
Ok, I think that's pretty much all you need. Then go to RadioShack (hopefully you have one near you). For all the bends you got with the paperclip, get SPST toggle switches (make sure they're mini ones). These are easy to solder but make sure you don't melt them, it's very easily done. All you have to do is take two wires from the board to each pole on the switch and it should work.
Now comes the hard/expensive bit. For all the bends using your fingers, you have two options:
-Body contacts (easiest/cheapest option, but BASTARDS to solder)
-Potentiometers (long/expensive but much easier to solder).
In your case, I'd go with body contacts. What you need are some pins with a large head so that you can touch them. Then drill holes (hopefully you can get drill bits SMALLER that the pins pole) and force the pins into them. You'll have to solder the pin-tips up to the circuit using your soldering iron, solder and wire. Please note that pins are really hard to solder, so you might want to try using alligator clips or something like that.
Hopefully, when you screw it back together, nothing falls out and it works like you want it to.

Wow, thanks futureimage. That site I went to was OK, but your suggestions, especially for the body contacts, helped a lot. I'll pop over to the Radio Shack and get some gear. Funny how the machine cost fifty cents, and I'll be spending about $20 fucking it up.

Want my advice? Just solder a line out to it, and just record yourself running a wires over the connections. Much more controllable, and less likely to die half way through an operation. Circuit bending is kind of fun, but always ends up being less fullfilling than you might expect.

so you guys are expert in electronics i suppose you can't just solder something randomly and see if some funny sounds come out

No, furoi, you have to first test different short circuits using test leads. If one works, you can install a connection between it, which may include a variable resistor.

Electronics? ARE YOU KIDDING? Seriously, you don't need to know anything to take up circuit bending. You just need to research switches and pots for a bit on the internet and have some experience with some tools.

Hahahah, great find !!
Question (evolves around evolume's post): If you would have found this at a garage sale for $2.00 in the box/mint condition.... Would you still be asking us these questions ?
Hahahah great find anywho !!
