Anyone got any recommendations for a decent "do it all" microphone. Doesn't have to be top of the line, absolute tops budget £100, but preferably around £60.
Looking primarily for something that could be used to record a whole drumkit on one channel. It'd be a bonus if it could also do bass guitars reasonably well and field recording to an MD recorder.
As I say, quality doesn't have to be top of the range; it'll probably only be going into a soundblaster Extigy 2 and/or Live!

ehm.. sony ecm-ms907
I think they should do for what you need.. it's battery powered, so using it with a md should work fine.

Maybe this one.
But as far as field recording... dunno... phantom, u know...
I used a AKG c3000 for drum recording, all to one track, and results were awesome. Well, taht's how it was done in the good old days...
Then there's the Shure SM58 and SM57, war microphones... but sure you know about them..

Unabomber & Drunkenmastah: How can I be sure these are not booby-trapped mics that will kill me in retaliation for my human rights violation yesterday? :S ;)
For non-battery powered ones, will I need some sort of portable battery powered pre-amp in order to use it with the MD?
Ta for the advise folks. Any other recommendations?

There are battery boxes that fit between any phantom mic and his cable feedin the electricity it needs.
For field recording, Mastah has it!
*shit, where's my machete?*

yeah, if you want to use one that needs phantom power (in that case it's probably got xlr and not jack anyway), you'd need a portable amp as well... the sony one works fine, but be prepared to spend a few minutes extra on some eqing.. but that's something you'll have to do with lower quality mics anyway...

This is a bit out of your price range I guess but I just have to show this one: LAZY_RECORDER
A pretty decent stereo electret mic included...
I use this with a röde nt2a and the included mic and it's simply an amazing little tool, I use it as an recorder, mp3 player aswell as for transfering films and stuff from friends. I know you didn't ask about a mobile recorder but this is probably the best thing ive ever bought so I just had to recommend it =D
I'm sorry I dont really know allot of good mics in the price range you mentioned but it's always best to go over to a store and try stuff out a bit quickly. If you don't have to have a stereo mic I would recommend a "studio projects B1" though, condenser and obvoiusly requiress phantom power but it's said to sound extremely good for it's price (about 80 dollars I think..)
Good luck..
