They are releasing a whole movie soon. From what I saw it looks cheesy : they are playing little scenes with their robot helmets on...
I really regret the "da funk" period I must say. From the time they did all those anime videos coupled with teenagers tunes I lost interest in them... Are you still liking them ?

I like "robot rock" (is this the name??) track, but the whole album is crap, not mentioning the cover of course.
Yeah live shows are cool, but if you dont have decent albums behind...

there is certainly a fair amount of repetitiveness, and a lot of duds. but i mean in general dance music is hardly an "album" genre anyway.

Discovery sounds dated? It was ahead of its time with this whole 70s / space disco / italo revival thing.
I didn't like it first, thought it was to poppy and cheesy. Then I realised how awesome it was and it still sounds fresh to me.

unfortunately, you can't give them any credit at all (or barely) for robot rock; they sampled an already existing loop (from release the beast by breakwater), looped it all the track long and added the "rock. ro-bot-rock." robotic voice - barely anything more to it. the original loop wasn't even modified!

Regardless, I think Discovery is an awesome album and a lot better than Homework, which doesn't do it for me.

Discovery is just so wicked. What a lot of people didn't understand was that they weren't joking, they really wanted to make a open-hearted accessible album. And I wouldn't say it was purely retro, it just took influences like cheesy 80's AOR and italo house and totally updated them. I remember meeting a girlfriend through dancing to "Digital Love" at an indie night in '02. She turned out to be a bitch, but I still love that song.

k so heres my take on the boys (yes, they are french, as with everything else awesome like air, michel gondry and baguettes)
read up on them and youll find out that they started off as a shitty guitar rock band, but then bought a bunch of drum machines and cranked out the genious that is homework. realizing that homework is just some guitar guys on e fooling with synths makes the album make that much more sense. tracks like revolution 909 and rollin and scratchin were just made for mdma, they hardly make sense without it :P
then they got big with da funk and around the world, and record compainies latched on as fast as they could. hence: discovery, the same etarded guitar boys making a genious pop album. watch the accompanying anime interstella 5555 and you basically get the idea: they made their huge hit with one more time, and just blew out of proportion and almost became too big for their britches that people started forgetting who it was behind the music.
human after all seems like a logical progression of sorts: completely devoid of cheesey, sprinkly poppiness of discovery, and littered with guitars, the duos first love of course. human after all is daft punk saying 'fuck you' to the record companies and just making the album that they wanted to make. sure, its repetetive, but since when arent any of their other tracks?!
and btw, i found a video file of nearly all of the daft punk coachella set, but its 850 mb for some reason (even though the quality its not so hot, but certainly still watchable) so i havent put it anywhere for download.
see? i told you guys i had gotten into them a bit too much.
oh yeah, and homework is still my fave. dirty gritty dancey and full of imagination.

Yeah, Musique their first single. If I remember correctly it goes:
Musique, Muuuusique. Musique, Muuuusique. Musique, Muuuusique. Musique, Muuuusique.
Maybe DP got commisioned to do a µ-Ziq advert?
Human After All was a bit shit yes, but i've got into it. it's an album of good ideas, but DP don't want to take them anywhere.
