I managed to install xp pro onto my new laptop. I had to get onbe of those cut down versions in the end. There are just two minor probs and if anyone can help i'd be well appreciative.
1. The laptop battery metre no longer exists. is there a way to manual install this?
2.I need drivers for my IEEE 1394 port (my firewire port)
There are two unknown devices showing in device manager i am not sure what they might be and for some reason my comp is lappy is showing 3 plug n play displays. other than that it is a neat trimmed down version of xp :D

battery meter
start->control panel->power options
advanced tab
check 'always show icon in taskbar'.
As for firewire drivers, XP is supposed to have standard support for firewire and you shouldn't have to. Theres a chance that who ever compiled this version of XP left them out for some reason.
install all the drivers and software from dell.com for your model.
