You can use any sequencer that puts out control voltage.

Why would you use a different sequencer?

Well, it depends on what kind of sequences you want to make
of course. I'm very happy with my frostwave though, so I
recommend it if you're interested in stepsequencers.

You should consider getting a box to convert from midi to
cv/gate though, lots's of new possibilities :)

The 303 only has one timbre.

Yeah, I'd go with something a little more simple.

Some kind of midi sequencer and a converter.

for goodness sake this forum!!! one simple question and all
he gets is dozens of waffling threads...

you can control the 303 with a midi sequencer/computer using
something like a kenton pro solo/pro 2 etc. just set the
midi channel to the one you want the 303 to play... you will
need mods to be able to program the slides tho

analogue-wise any octave-volt sequencer will do, roland mc4
and mc8 are hard to use, the 8/16-step analogue sequencers
are the most fun but inaccurate/limited

the best way is to learn to program it
this is the simplest way:

switch to write mode
press pitch mode
put in the notes for your bassline
press start
press pattern clear
metronome starts, punch in the timing for the notes with
write/next button
it will switch back into normal/function mode after a bar's
worth
if u want press pitch mode again and you can tap thru the
notes one at a time using the same button applying accents,
slides and transpositions. you press the write/next button
and hold it down, apply the changes then release the button
and move on to the next note.
now
switch it into play, select the next pattern and start over
when you have 4 decent basslines in a row (eg pattern 1-4,
5-8, 9-12, 13-16) you can chain them in play mode by
pressing the first then the last at the same time.
you can put in timings another way by pressing timing button
when u r in write mode... you have a short note, then a
button to make the note longer by that same amount depending
on how many times you press it, then a button for rests.

come on get on the case!

Heh, I wasn't :)

As a matter of fact I'm trying to sell it for a couple of
thousand more than I bought it for, need more money :D

The future retro mobius has all the features of the 303
sequencer, but with total control.

But why would he want to control a 303 with a 303 sequencer
emulator? Thats like using a 303 to sequence a bass
station...

it has the features, but the mobius can do more standard
sequencing too.
