hi. can you please explain to me the difference between for
example:

learned and learnt?

'i learned something today' or is it learnt?

'i dreamt something last night' or is it dreamed?

perhaps there are some more obvious examples that make it
look easier.

i'd say you use learned when you can't actually say you've
learnt something. like you were learning but didn't learn
anything :)
and learnt when you actually learnt something..maybe :D

ah nice one. that's it.

T-forms include: burnt, clapt, crept, dealt, dreamt, dwelt,
felt, leant, leapt, learnt, meant, spelt, smelt, spilt,
spoilt, stript, vext

The t-forms with a vowel change are still very common in
modern English. In fact, crept, dealt, felt and meant are
the only accepted forms. In the case of dreamt and leapt,
although dreamt and leapt are still quite common and
acceptable in both written and spoken English, the regular
forms dreamed and leaped seem to be more popular in modern
usage.

hence the confusion.

thanks unabomber. i'm sure qrter has something more to add
soon. thanks qrter.

bloody irregular verbs. id rather just say "bed, havd, god,
maked" instead of "was, had, went, made"

the -d thing works for me!

haha. sweet consolation for me then ;)

but no worries. There's hardly a 'wrong' way to use either
form then, just some are considered more modern. Check
unabomber's link if you want.

i'd go with whatever sounds most obvious, i guess.

we're all learning today. yay! and yay for the english
language. it's beatiful.

Sometimes I'm ashamed to ask things like this one Goran.
Well, though, I used to wonder things for ages and before or
after I got the answer I needed without asking to someone..
That's because other people made the question before me like
in this case!

Anyway, if I'll need help again, I'll probably bump this
thread or something, as the title is "qrter". It catches the
attention :)

I MEANT

I never made a thread like this one to ask stuff about my
english's troubles. And when I had doubts (like in this
case) someone else solved my problems by making questions
I've been wondering for ages.
