1) iTunes doesnt show any of my tracks or playlists
suddenly. The library is empty. I checked the directory it
is looking in and its all fine. What should I do?

2) In the finder in OS X, if you select the column view and
click on a video file it insists on loading it up in the
finder, which jams everything up for ages and is fucking
annoying. Is there a way to stop this

1) the itunes library file is probably fucked up. these
things happen sometimes. you might want to try and repair
the permissions in the Disk Utility proggie, but it will
most like do naught. just drop all your legal downloads into
itunes again for a fresh start

2) i see that it's an avi you're trying to preview. I think
you have to install the divx codec component thing to allow
quicktime to decode it (qt manages all the audio and vid
stuff in Finder - atleast I think so)

If it doesnt work, try and get a hold of Toast 7, there's
this thing that installs with it that lets you load the
.avis faster

thanks vlr

1) pain in the arse but

2) it is quicktime as far as I know. Ive got toast 7 and my
codecs should be all good. I mean it does load the video
eventually but it just takes a minute or two. Now you
mention it I suppose it is really only avis that take a long
time. Id really prefer to be able to just stop it loading
them up automatically, Im surprised I havent seen anyone
else whinging about this.

(2) press apple-i on a .avi file to see the information
window, then choose the application you want to open the
.avi with?

(1) dunno, it always worked fine for me but i might be doing
it a different way... i just drag and drop my mp3 folders on
the itunes window. just be sure to uncheck the "keep
the itunes music folder organized" and "copy in itunes music
folder the files added to the libarary" boxes if you do
that!

(also, if you want to try another player than itunes, i'd
recommend audion. it's not updated anymore, but
stilll very good.)
