Hello xlt friends, here is my latest little musical number
for your enjoyment. It's the one on top called 'free
willy.' It's about 1:30 and 2.7 MB. thanks for reading!

I love the stephanie tanner surprise, for me I love
the atmosphere, the bittersweet nostalgia, the shameless pop
music, it's like early evening before a party somewhere
sunny, in 1989. This example is another worthy addition to
the cannon. It's too short though, of course.

I wish I knew what the bassy synth was that you use. But
that's a trade secret, so I'll just keep wondering.

thank you for being such a great listener, dog_belch. this
is exactly the fictional world I'm always daydreaming about
and being inspired by. you nailed it!
we must be somewhat on the same wavelength, between this and
the whole disposable music thread.. :).

i wanted to write anything about this track but i got dreamy
....and when i woke up i realised that anything that i'd
write about this music piece would be a mere description of
what i really felt while listening to it....

thanks for sharing....

i just have listened to the three tracks, and it was an
escape, like a short journey. It was like i was entering my
youngest daughter's nintendo DS making her smiling and
smiling again. Cool.

sweet :). I'll tell you, some of those nintendo DS games
have some intense soundtracks. my brother's game Advance
Wars comes to mind. regardless, thanks!

my eyes have been dry all day

I like this, but I can't say much about why or how or
whatever.

oh dear. sorry about your eyes. I'm glad the track brought
you a brief glimmer of joy, at least.

staz: indeed. I like fake clapping

Oh god, how cool would it be to do live shows with this kind
of music and 80's-esque vox lines wearing something of the
era.

This is def. cool.

Jesus. I was pretty hyped up to listen to this, reading all
the positive feedback. And yeah, it is really good. As the
others say, sort of escapistic music.

Rez 1.3

beautiful funny/positive stuff, nice project, i'm enjoying
very much all your music in this sunny but cold morning,
hugs!

thanks for the nice comments, all!

DirtyPriest: Glad you liked it! While escapist isn't
something I was necessarily going for, I guess I need to
come to terms with the fact that this stuff isn't exactly
the hafler trio :) oh well, the world needs more good pop
anyway!
Good guesses with the instruments, I actually rarely use
VSTs. I compose mainly with Buzz so most of what you're
hearing is either buzz machines or samples.

imdex: thank you for taking a moment out of your morning to
listen, and for the hugs. I needed that today. :D

swift: that's not a bad idea.. in fact I was thinking along
similar lines. I'm supposedly playing in Dallas in a couple
months, if my friend's band pulls it together, but I had a
similar idea of dressing appropriately and reading a script
along with this one certain track... here. The
danger with the 80's vox stuff is that it's supposed to be
more early 90's than '80's retro'. it's a very fine line
though, and alot of the same rules apply. hell, I'm not even
sure if I'm pulling it off.. it's just sort of an ideal I
strive for. thanks again for the ideas and for listening,
cheers! :)

Ok. I really thought i heard one of those plugins, i mention
them together because its the same developer. But hey, i
love buzz! it just doesnt seem to be very stable on my comp.

Buzz does have stability problems.. it's a pretty finicky
program, but it's the only one I can really use that well.

btw, I tried listening to your viktor crayon tracks but the
little music player won't load :(

I thought I had listened to this but obviously I didn't.
Too short by far but really really nice. I love the fake
claps, I've always had a thing about them. I really
enjoyed. Thanks.

thanks for listening, ecnadniarb. I'm glad you liked the
fakey claps. there's something irresistable about all those
dated percussion bank/preset sounds :) cheers!

DirtyPriest: I got your mp3 downloads to work and I listened
to your tracks. I love Dwarfish Gas Station Costumer with
that driving, staccato melody ..brilliant!

Feeek. Excellent. Thanks! This board actually seems to have
a positive vibe in this thread. Whats happening?

Do you use regular samples? Maybe we could swap some.

Like I said, I use alot of buzz machines but I do have a
limited bank of regular samples I like. Unfortunately, I
have reformatted my computer several times so many of my
favorite samples are scattered all over a mess of
unorganized backup CDRs. I'll try to assemble a few though
and email you tomorrow.. it's really late and my brain is
fried from paper writing tonight, haha. O_o

were you mainly interested in drum or synth samples? the
main melody sounds in this track are actually sampled from
one of those sappy dad-talk scenes from a Full House
episode.

but anyway, I like the swapping idea. I'll see what I can
find. and yeah, what's up with the good vibe? creepy.. :)

Its not natural...

The thing about full house, i cant watch it the same way,
after watching Aristocrats!!!

But yeah, i generally just love swapping samples. I have
some unique ones i made in cooledit from scratch, or
sampling something in real life. Theyre actually
surprisingly usefull.

from scratch! wow.. that takes alot of talent. most of my
attempts at blind oscillator tweaking fail miserably. I
would love to hear some of your creations, although I'm not
sure I could adequately repay the favor since so much of my
stuff relies on dated presetty samples. let's give it a go
though, I'll get to work on it!

and yeah, Sags is a filthy, filthy man. but I still love him
despite it all. that was a funny movie, and his scene in
Half baked was pretty indispensable too (as much as I hate
to admit it).

ok I'm gonna hit the hay. I'll get going on those samples
tomorrow!

Oh, man, you should make Porn-OST.
I love this pre-90's touch.

this coincides amazingly with what fleet brought up
here. but yes, Cinemax/skinamax, for example, has
some softcore porno crap I've caught on occasion that had
the most breathtaking, haunting 90's style synthesized
soundtracks. I was at a friends' house on one occasion and
of course he didn't believe that I was mainly intrigued by
the soundtrack :)

thanks for checking out the track
