What's the best album of the 80s? If God asked me that
question on some celestial version of Pop Quiz, I'd have to
say "God, it's obviously 'Infected' by the British act The
The". Matt Johnson's lyrics presaged my ENTIRE life, and now
I can only read them with a mixture of tears, regret, rueful
smiles and strong booze. What a great guy!!! THAT's
what pop music should be.

"Out Of The Blue (Into The Fire)"

I'm a man without a soul...Honey, yeah
I lost it while parading it, in a town full of thieves
Y'see I didn't wanna be with any people I know.
But god knows, I didn't wanna be alone
I thought if I acted like someone else
I'd feel more comfortable with myself
So I showered down, left my little room
Jumped in my car for protection from hostility
Well it ain't easy to be bold in an unknown city
Yeah I was feeling strong mouthed and weak willed
When I ran into the cure for my ills

Don't tell me what your name is
I want your body, not your mind,
I want a feeling, worth paying for before I say goodbye
But as I was talking, I couldn't look her in the eyes,
I just kept wondering,
How many men unleashed their frustration between her
thighs?

There'll be no sleep 'til the morning
There'll be no lullabyes
'cause the devil borrowed my clothes just for tonight

Well my adrenalin, was curdling like cream,
as I was being led by the hand.
Through the sound of sirens
And the distant noise of some drunken jazz band,
Through the stench of disinfectant--
that "INFECTED" my head,
through the darkness of a corridor
and into a stranger's bed.

Well I didn't wanna hurt your feelings, honey
But I couldn't suppress my own,
I had to pull myself outta this nosedive
by proving something to myself.

She was lying on her back
with her lips parted.
Squealing like a stuffed pig
I was going through the motions
faking the emotions,
and wriggling around like a lizard in a tin.

Trying so hard to cleanse myself,
I was turning into somebody else.
I was trying so

surely? Surely?

hard to please myself,
I was turning into somebody else.
I was trying so hard to be myself
I was turning into somebody else.
I was trying so hard to be myself
I was turning into somebody else.
I was trying so hard to be myself
I was turning into somebody else.

Come my love--with your desire--
Out of the blue...and into the fire

so... yeah.
pretty good lyrics.
from The The i only have NakedSelf, but it's been a
while since i listened to it.

Yeah, that's great Uzim, only that's his WORST album,
by a long chalk. If you think it's even half decent please,
please seek out "Soul Mining", "Infected", "Burning Blue
Soul" or "Dusk". But if you don't like any of them, don't
let me know, 'cause I'll just be upset.

Actually I wanted to reply to Doggy's post by :

"Yeah I like this album very much, but I prefer Mind Bomb
though ! Very nice music and lyrics."

And my favorite shirt isn't blue, that's right. You've been
Beyond the Combo with your thread, qrter.

I like Mind Bomb, but...hmmm, don't know. "Kingdom of Rain"
is a standout track. Fuck me.. I can't remember any others,
The Beat(en) Generation... probably makes more sense now,
too much so, Armaggeddon Days are here (Again), good song,
... oh I'll have to google, and I had this on vinyl... and
the singles, ... one in a box set, yeah.. (memory goes
fuzzy)..

hence the ridiculousnessessness.

and I am beyond the combo. actually having had sex that
seems pretty obvious, but it's still nice to hear.

I feel so.. STUPID, so DAMN SILLY!!

That isn't as bad as me saying "Computer Love" by Kraftwerk
was an instrumental version of Coldplay's "Talk" the other
day, because, to be fair, I don't own any Kraftwerk records
apart from Tour de France 2003 ...

SEE HOW MAGNANIMOUS I AM

so what uzim did to The The's records, you pretty much have
done to Kraftwerk's records by buying the shittiest thing
they probably have made!

on the other hand, you used the word 'magnanimous', which in
itself is quite a feat and for that alone you should be
applauded.

If the search worked on this shit heap I bet "magnanimous"
would only come up twice, and in this arse-forsaken thread,
God fuck it!

the results in short:

you are in the company of the following people who have used
the word "magnanimous" before on this messageboard - xceque,
marlowe and.. Xeron.

also good to note that someone called MrTenzin says it's one
of his favourite words, next to such classics as "jah",
"gip" and "shiznackle".

I've Been Waiting for Tomorrow (All of My Life) FTW, I shake
my ass to that. Soul Mining is my favorite and that's my
favorite The track. Is this wise or should I change my ways?

No that's fine, old boy. "Soul Mining" is more
classic I guess, whereas "Infected" is more... of its
time. But, still, both have great atmos.

I'm a bit torn now... "This is the day", "uncertain
Smile"... "Soul mining" the title track... well the version
that comes with the extra tracks like "Perfect" and "Waitin
for the upturn" definitely "pwns"... I suppose.
