...or whatever shit is popular in society at any given
point in time.

why you ask?

i'll tell ye

for many years i have (and still) gripe about the shit that
the general fodder listen to. many times have i wanted to
heave at the dirge i heard on the radio, or TV or coming
form some wanker's car stereo or whatever. it is still a
fact that i pay no attention to the charts at all, and very
rarely pay attention to any new artists (i mean new artists
that are over-hyped by the fucking media-barometer).

anyways, to get to my point - yes the music that's out there
is shit (and in my opinion there's never been a worse time
for music than the past few years and the future) but as
long as they are listening to the shit, they're not
listening to the good stuff.

i dunno about you but it'd really piss me off if i
saw some fucking chav in his souped up Ford Fiesta with
massive rear spoilers, and pneumatic hydraulic suspension,
doing the "pimpmobile bounce" to some autechre or anything
else that's decent.

sometimes i slip up, and have a right old rant about shitty
music, but at the end of the day it's keeping them away from
the good stuff

Why would you be pissed up if a pimpmobile was playing
Autechre? I would be happy because more people listening to
Autechre is better than more people listening to 50 cent. If
a pimpmobile was bouncing to Autechre I would probably have
a chat with the pimp, and maybe asked if I could bounce some
in it.

I hate people forming unbreakable links with music 'scenes'
that cause them to lash out at other scenes, I think its
stupid and self-restricting. I don't have a problem with
classifying music because that just makes life easier but
its daft to back yourself into a corner of being too
underground to like whats popular.

I do listen to a little bit of extremely mainstream music
and it usually gets ruined for me by over-play, which is one
good reason to keep good music away from the masses.

that's stupid. I'd love to have a pimpmobile with the
loudest fucking soundsystem in the world - and yes I'd be
playing autechre on it while bouncing, with mortsto-x in it

your point about over-play - that's exactly why i don't
listen to or care for what's deemed socially popular

i admit that i can be an elitist a lot of the time
especially when it comes to music and it may make me a
shitty person or whatever, but at least i am taking a
different perspective and thinking to myself

"ok, well that person over there is listening to shit music,
but as long as they're listening to it and i'm not that's
ok."

i don't force my views onto others by saying "you should
stop listening to that shit and get something decent rammed
into your earholemic"

:)

I dont like mainstream music because, due to its popularity,
its covered with images of the artist and the people who
listen to it. I maintain that 90% of people who listen to a
maintstream artist do so because they identify with the
artist. It has nothing to do with the music. When the
artists are so visible it is hard to distinguish them from
their music.

That sounds like a fucking deal. We should probably include
Phresch, but for some reason I want hot chicks in the
backseat. Hot chicks in the backseat, and Phresch in the
trunk getting the most bouncing of all. That's a plan

hype around arctic monkeys really put me off of checking it
out. after i heard the album i was very disappointed. same
with radiohead and some others. i don't mind they hype
generally if it worths it, but usually it doesn't, people
just enjoy what media forces usually so they think that is
the best there is. that isn't so though.
