as im randomly flipping through the channels, and come
across the joke that MTV now is, and "TRL"

I think to myself "god damn i would love to see come to
daddy or windowlicker on there"

and laugh at all the kiddies who are like " what the hell is
this shit"

that got me thinking.

what if we picked a date,
like, in a month, told everyone, i mean EVERYONE,, in the US
etc,,, to call in on that date, and vote for an aphex
video?

Would that not fOOGIN OWN,

just for the hell of it
just to see what all those lil kiddies think.

emaressment to the human race.

haha. i'd do it. I doubt it'd work though. I think you
have to vote on one of a list of videos that are
current...it'd be filled w/ boyband crap.

he wouldn't

and its not like i WANT him to be all over MTV

i think it would just be funny

99% of the ppl watching MTV would be like
"WHTA.....THE......HELL"

why a very select few would be laughin inside.

do you seriously think that TRL is true democracy in
practice?

yeah it is, ubik, about two years ago, an email went around
telling everybody to vote for new kids on the block "hangin
tough", and people did it, and the next day, out of fucking
nowhere, it was at number 2, i remember, david holmes (no
not the dj) was hosting, and he said "where the hell did
this come from?" so, in conclusion, yes, its not just
popularity, its actually based on the number of votes
dont do it for aphex though, windowlicker and come to daddy
are both banned on mtv
you should do it for come on my selector, its not banned
anyway, it would suck, because it would get a few borderline
wiggers or wiggettes into windowlicker, and come to daddy,
and they'd walk around saying "i love apex twins!"
itd suck
trust me

why are they ban'd?
come to daddy is on mtv2?
i can see why windowlicker is band'

There is an edited version of the CTD video. During the
screaming part, instead of the scary demon man, it just
shows more of the bluish TV guy screaming, then it cuts back
to the original version w/ that shot of the Thamesmead
apartment towers.

I've been thinking recently about calling in to a local
radiostation sometime and just requesting some BoC... I
honestly believe that if they were played on the radio, and
people heard them, they'd be super popular... but hey, I
guess I am a bit biased in my view... :)

offline Zombiekev from Ardmore (United States) on 2002-03-03 05:01 [#00109404]

i hate shows like that. they are trying to act like laid
back heads, but none of them smoke weed. they are also
trying to suave, fashion-wise; but they aren't.
it just sucks. i hate it.
too superficial.
especially in standards.

offline Ophecks from Nova Scotia (Canada) on 2002-03-03 05:02 [#00109405]

I don't think they'd be super popular, but I DO think people
would like them... it's inoffensive music... you play
Omjiyaga Switch on the radio, people will scream and run
away. BOC isn't as nutty, but they're not commercial enough
to be SUPER popular... but I think people would hear them,
think ''this is cool'', and forget about them.

Because people are fucking morons!

yeah, Drukqs is pretty extreme... BoC are more listener
friendly, and are more accessible... so they would
definately increase their fan base...

after the new kids on the block thing, some one tried to do
it with vanilla ice. but it didn't show up on the top 10...
they called and some representative from mtv told them that
it is pretty much rigged as far as the outcome is.

but because i didnt think people would get the music because
like ophecks said...people are fucking dumb

i have seen these videos on MTV:
Come to Daddy
Window licker
Ventolin
On

but it was ages ago, probably 1996/1997 on that show called
AMP.
Ventolin was the real trip though.. i can't imagine who
thought it would be a good idea to put that on amongst the
likes of sun ra and daft punk. but i guarantee most of the
people who were watching changed the channel.

Oh and yeah about the video, I really doubt On would be
banned unless MTV find sand offensive. If it isn't rigged
On would be a nice choice for "TRL". Though we dont get that
out here. Our request show on MTV is Most Wanted. Hmmm... I
think I'll email them to play On!

Has anyone seen the vid for ageispolis? I saw it on mtv2
once, and it was amazing. I just randomly turned it on and
it started right in front of me. Put a huge smile on my face
:)

I think that record companies have more influence over what
is played on TRL than the viewers. Sad really, but thats the
state of music at the moment.

trl is a terrible show but i think it'd be hilarious to get
an aphex twin video on it. i know one time some NKOTB fans
got some old video of theirs to #2 on trl, so write-ins are
definitely valid.

theirs no way that'd work with aphex twin. Their is like
300,000 people or something that vote on that show. We'd
have to get every aphex fan in the world to vote on it.

There's this cool thing called macros. Like, you can
totally get a computer to refresh a page, fill in
information, and send it via a formover and over and over
and over and over and over and over again. Very quickly.

It's great for internet voting where there is no restriction
on the amount of times you can vote (like *gasp* TRL).

Pick a day, I'll send out tutorials. Anything to fuck the
system.

Actually I think the reason Aphex didn't release anything
for a while is that he thought he was getting too popular.
Notice there has been no flashy Cunningham pop videos in a
long time? And for a few years he was only releasing white
labels with stickers on em.

Material from Drukqs and all manner of "IDM" is played all
the time on MTV. They use it to accompany those endlessly
fascinating bits of "cutting edge" film inbetween the pop
videos that soundtrack teen pregnancy and paedophile
fantasies.

not in the U.S...you won't find that

you people seem to forget that a lot of people just listen
to what's in front of them .

so all those wanker people you refer to (mtv-types) could be
changed with a little decent music (my opinion of decent
music)

...but that's too much work i suppose
