So I had a nice little session with my brother today. He
plays the guitar and I play synths. We started out with
playing a simple C-F-D-G pianoriff and made it loop.

Then I made some lush pads that I looped with the piano. He
then picked up his guitar and plucked along and I jammed
with him using the warmest monolead I could squeeze out of
my synth.

The good thing with monoleads is I can play them with one
hand and use the other hand on the cutoff/resonance to make
the synth scream when I want to.

We recorded it to tape and it sounds pretty lush in my
opinion.

I wish we had EQ'ed the guitar a tad first though, the highs
are a little too loud compared to the rest (well, it was
steel strings).

Anyway, here's the track:
jamsession

This is weird, but I like it. Nice jam.

Maybe, I don't know. He's much bigger than me even though
he's younger.

I guess it kind of quirky, but it's lush :)

it sounds kinda 70s, like the music from Look Around You

this is really cool actually, you should make something of
it, when your brother gets out of hospital

Yes, I hear that a lot. Somehow my melodies tend to end up
childish.

Time will tell, I might try to get some percussion we can
play too. Some maracas and maybe a tambourine. I think a
drum machine might be out of question since we wont be able
to keep the tempo (we suck) :p

if you can't keep the tempo, getting percussion is a bad
idea.. it'll just make it more evident. just practice with
drumloops.

Hehe, I also meant that we should play the percussion by
hand so it will keep the organic tempo-drifting :p

yeah, and that's what I mean... with percussion it'll be
more evident.

Doesn't really matter that much to me though, as long as the
percussion and the synths/guitars go in somewhat the same
tempo :p

I think it's much worse when you have really rigid drums and
the rest of the instruments just fall behind.

Hehe, I realize guitars are a touchy thing when it comes to
electronic music, but my brother isn't really into any
electronic, just laidback acoustics. So it had to be this
way :)

you know, i mean, what he's playing is nice... it's just
too much of the high end... just needs some eq as you've
said

Yeah, but the thing is that none of this were planned. He
just brought his guitar and plugged it into my mixer and
started plucking and then after some minutes I decided to
play along with him so I put on the recorder and started
playing too.

If we had planned to do it we would have prepared the setup
more I guess :p

Maybe next time

I would love it if the high guitar notes where stripped off,
and some vocals where added. That little wobbly synth is
great, and sort of 70ish as other say.

I'll talk to my brother about it, maybe we can make a couple
of planned out tracks with some real composition behind it,
but still play it live of course.
