hey, seriously..don't remember what's your stand on hendrix.
being a guitar master, im sure you've got an opinion :)

well, it's one of those things... i respect his
experimentalism and style. he did some interesting stuff,
but that was a period when a whole lot of musicians were
experimenting and doing lots of crazy psychedelic stuff.

i used to be into that music when i was 14, but i got sick
of it... the classic songs are dated and it kind of grates
on me to hear purple haze or whatever. i wouldn't call
myself a fan.

cool. the way i see it is there's more to his music when you
pay attention..you can easily miss some of greatness if you
don't put much attention into it. same as aphex, both create
music in sort of pop form but there's more to it. im not
questioning your ability to listen to something here as im
pretty sure you know what to listen to in particular music,
so it must be you heard some amazing stuff from that period
:)
personally one of my favourite experimentalists from that
time is asmus tietchens, got to know him recently with all
those reissues of his work and most of it is amazing,
although completly different to hendrix..

I really don't know how to compare Aphex and Jimi. Maybe the
underground stardom is the one thing that is similar.
The problem is, I don't think Jimi was any good in
composition or in melodymaking. His biggest strenght to me
is the extent to which he felt one with his instrument.
However, any good jazz improviser is better in this field.
Feel free do disagree

ok, i've got to give asmus tietchens a listen. the sixties
were a fantastic time for experimental music and the
avant-garde side of art in general.

the glass frame broke and i got caught. i almost got beaten
up by a bunch of door men. jimi rocks!

from a musical standpoint, jazz improvisation is very
different from what jimi hendrix did, so even on a
superficial level, i'd say it would be wrong to compare the
two.

they both had/have great ear for combining sounds/parts that
doesn't seem to fit together, they both 'hide'
experimentalism into pop form songs + lots of other details
that are common to lots of musicians.

jimi didnt invent the fuzz face
octavia univibe or crybaby wah
but his style was arguably fluider
than richards allowing him to get
a greater range of use of those
innovations hes more like sp.

haha... keith richards? he's the most overrated shit
guitarist ever. steve jones was better at what richards did
than richards was.

haha "nie zapomnij sie podpisac" ?

experimenting and doing lots of crazy psychedelic stuff.

as far as i know his work so far - i could say the same
about Robert Fripp, who's been a great inspiration and great
collaborator to many artists. though his playing style and
approach to music [making] is quite or even totally
different from Jimi's. it's emotions vs calculation thing.

I think they're some perfects songs crafted by Jimi: Bold as
Love, Little Wing, Castles Made of sand, Stars that play
with laughings sam's dice.
I think his best strength was his composition.

and drugs...

I prefer the songs Jimi played alone with acoustic guitar.
Some real blues...
