yeah the search function is being a wee bit sketchy, so i'm
not entirely certain this hasn't been made already... but.

i just wanted to profess my love for the music of brazil,
especially during the late 60s and early 70s... Bossa and
Tropicalia...

any fans?

some personal faves:
Joao Gilberto
Gilberto Gil
Milton Nascimento
Chico Buarque
Gal Costa
Hermeto Pascoale
Edu Lobo
Walter Santos
Tom Ze
Lula Cortes e Ze Ramalho
Satwa

also the pretty brillian producer Rogerio Duprat,
responsible for many really awesome albums from many of the
above and others...

i don't know enough about it, but i do like the uptempo jazz
inflected stuff, i've got a few albums by joyce, and a comp
of brazilian jazz.
look for the track "aldeia de ogum" by joyce, one of my
absolutely all time favorite tracks.

i love this music too, but i've found it really hard to find
the good stuff. i keep buying these records thinking it
will be ok, but a lot of this stuff is too western-pop-y. i
want the authentic records. i guess i'll check out your
list

i was able to buy a brazilian release from an individual on
amazon, if you know the artist name you can get stuff that
is not released outside of brazil. the packaging was super
cheap (very low quality paper) but the cd sounds decent.

here's another source you might find useful:

dusty groove

well by all means check em out, but i sort of like a lot of
them because they are poppy, honestly. i think the
brazillian cannibalization of psychedelic pop (and rock) is
pretty wikkid. stuff like Gilberto Gil's albums from the
late 60s compare favourably with the more ambitious efforts
from peeps like the Beatles et. al.

i've been going through a bit of a pop renaissance of
late... obviously a bit more twisted stuff, but still...

pz - ok, thanks for the tip

deadeight - i know they're all poppy, but the stuff that
sounds like american pop imitating brazilian music is what
drives me crazy. so i don't want anymore of that.

out of curiosity, could you name a few rekkids that you've
liked or disliked?
