i see this brilliant flick doesn't have a thread yet!! (so
here's one).

this must be one of my top 3 films in the past 5 years.
jarmush's minimalism + murray's subtleness + music =
brilliance

Rita: Daddy, you're not supposed to be smoking.
Winston: Oh, no, no. This is just some assorted herbs, some
cheeba.
Don Johnston: Let me see that
[takes a drag of cigarette]
Don Johnston: Yep, it's just cannabis sativa.

my favourite part was probably the question don sets sherry;
what do you want, sherry? couldn't set that question in a
more appropriate tone :)

Great movie!
I'm a long time jarmush fan, and that's a good one, but IMO
Ghost Dog is better...

I love the way Broken Flowers ends...

hmm, ghost dog was among my least favourite jarmush films.
still a great one but quite different to all his other
films. my fav appart from broken flowers are definitelly
down by law, coffee and cigarettes and dead man.

yeah, apperantly the composer is ethiopian; mulatu astatke.
i must give those ethiopiques collection a better
listen..i've heard lots of them but apperantly not all as i
haven't really noticed astatke's music on there..

not the worst jarmusch movie (nigh on earth imo), but i
didnt liked it as many others. murray was too much himself
and too much predictable. but yeah, im not a murrays fan.
thou liked him in the life aquatic. after seeing broken
flowers went home and watched down by law for 5th time and
enjoyed it ten times more. and ghost dog is better movie
than flowers in my oppinion. hmm, maybe im just getting old
and want to see down by law 2 or something.

"murray was too much himself"

exactly. his acting was very subtle again, there's more
genuinity in his eyes than in what most of other actors is
trying to do..dunno how to explain this hehe..and jarmush
apperantly said he made this film for murray exclusivly,
being his big fan and all..turned out great imo.

this is a great film - loved it. i saw it in the theater
and jim jarmusch was there to answer questions from the
audience afterwards.

one of the few things i liked about this film was the
soundtrack, i kept wishing i could stay in the car and
listen to the mix cd instead of going up with bill murray's
character to interact with another cardboard, stereotyped
female character.

i'm clearly in the minority, but this film (for me) had few
laughs and promised a lot more than it delivered.

i saw it with my wife and parents, the wife agreed with me,
and my parents liked it a lot. to each their own...

a french style.

"with another cardboard, stereotyped"

you can always say that, no?

"it's like old, good fellini being done in
a french style. "

hahaha

i could talk about jarmuschs movies for hours but my poor
english vocabulary really limits me. But what i wanted to
say is that i dont see as many layers and symbols in broken
flowers as, for example, in ghost dog. broken flowers is
just a "road movie", its very smart and it has beautiful
rhytm but its not a world by itself. its only my opinion, of
course :)

"i dont see as many layers"

can you elaborate on that a bit please? :)

offline hma from real life on 2006-01-11 05:54 [#01816062]

i was saying that in ghost dog i can see the story going in
different levels simultaneously- its a movie about samurai
code but in the same time its a movie about mafia. hmm,
something like that.

so basically what you are saying is you prefer action over
drama? :D
