Hi, I'm hoping someone might be able to read this and let
me know if my initial ideas are possible and what I might
have to do to get this working on my PSP. -Thanks very
much-

Here's what I have:

-PSP w/ fw 2.0.1.
-32MB memory card.
-WIFI LAN at home.
-Mac computer with Blue Tooth. (might be able to get Virtual
PC on it)
-Hi Speed internet connection.
-Server space.

Here's what I don't have:

-a USB cable for the PSP
-a larger memory card
-a PC
-a desire to turn my new PSP into a paper-weight.

The Skinny

So what I'd like to do is get some downloadable games onto
my PSP. I'd much rather have new & cheap & perhaps mediocore
content on tap, than only a few purchased games that I
quickly beat. (BTW, I just bought AC:FF and the Akira anime
and love both!)

Anyways, I read that tricking out my fw-version (2.0.1) of
the PSP is near impossible. I was wondering, is there any
way to just download the games to my Mac, either hookup the
PSP to the WIFI LAN at home or directly to my MAC G5 via
bluetooth, and send the downloaded games directly to the
memory card and play them off of that?

I saw on the saves section of psp-hacks.com that Lumines was
like a 430ish KB zip file. If that is the case, it most
certainly would fit on my 32mb memory card. Either way, I
dL'd that file to my mac and its most likely a PC version
bin file. I just need a way to get it to my PSP if its
possible to run the game off of this file.

One more thing:

Since there is an internet browser and a WIFI LAN connection
at my home, in theory could I just surf to the previously
mentioned site via the PSP, download a game, save it
directly to the Memory Card, and play it off of that?

Thanks so much for your help!!!
(I look forward to any of your replies, suggestions,
tutorials, and tips.)

Dear PSP owner...

Since the 2.0.1 firmware isin't cracked yet, you can't play
homebrew/ISO games on your PSP.

Unfortunately, there's no way to switch back to 1.5 and even
via any download method :(

Regards
Hetz

Ok, look no offence but it sounds like you don't really know
what you are on about, so I think you should STEER CLEAR of
hacking the PSP!

The Lumines save thing at a few hundred kB of data is game
progress (i.e. save games) saved to the memory stick, since
UMD is read only. It is not an actual game!

Your firmware v2.01 isn't cracked so cannot execute
arbitrary code, i.e. homebrew apps. This means that a
downgrader program cannot be run.
There is also a downgrader program which some nasty person
(or sony maybe??) has made which deletes 3 key files from
the flash memory making the PSP a brick, i.e. no longer
works.
So be careful what you run, but since your OS is not cracked
(yet?) it can't be run anyway.

Get a USB cable. They can be used for other things as well,
like digital cameras, its not some sony special, its an
"A-B(mini)" style (i think).
with the usb cable your computer can see the contents of the
memory stick as if it is a removable drive. If your mac can
detect usb memory sticks then it should see this and auto
configure itself.
Now you can copy mp3s, photos videos and exchange saved
games, etc. Videos are not as easy as mp3s or photos but
still quite easy once u read how.

Also, there is a way to downgrade any version! it involves a
HARDWARE hack. Since the OS is stored in flash memory,
simply gain access to a V1.5 programmed flash device and
copy the data from that onto your flash device overwritting
it with v1.5. This will involve opening the PSP, removing
the flash memory, which is probably a surface mount or BGA
device making a quick interface PCB, clocking out the data
from one to the other and then refitting the devices to the
PSPs and re-assembly. Of course this will invalidate the
warranty!

Also the PSP runs a stripped down version of NetBSD, so any
homebrew apps would only run on a UNIX style os, I.E BSD,
Linux, MAC OSX. but would probably require 'tweaking' first.

Hope this is of some help.

wow, good info. Thanks M8.

If it was a simple software thing, I would consider doing
it, but since its not even possible (yet) I'm going leave it
alone and just buy more games.
