trying to get into the festive spirit by listening to this
ep. but as nice as it is, it's just not working... is my
heart made of stone?

or maybe i should just blame it on walkers.. i can't find
turkey and stuffing flavoured crisps anywhere this year.
roast chicken flavour just doesnt have the same effect

It's having a go that counts. I have dillignetly tried to
get pissed on Baileys alone but i think, scientifically,
it's impossible.

Oh, man, those turkey and Paxo Walkers? They were so good,
my dad got a load of surplus in January that kept me going
for ages.

Low EP, I think is pure brilliance. First time I heard it it
was somewhat sombre & deflating, but as Xmases have gone by
I love it more and more. Its one of the most intimate
records Low have made, and intimacy is far more significant
to me when it comes to Christmas than Phil Spector/jingle
bells stuff.

The last track jarrs somewhat, though - it seems a bit of an
added on bit. But its short so doesn't change the feel of
the whole thing.

The lyrics are the best thing on the record and they are
very uplifting to me. They are quite beautiful in their
religious imagery, the nostalgia they evoke might be lost if
you're not from a Christian background, perhaps, and this is
a shame. To me, songs like Long Way Round The Sea totally
conjur memories of hearing the three kings story at
Christmas in infant school, when the whole experience was
more magical than it is when you are older. My favourite
however is Little Drummer Boy, that's just blissful and slow
and snowy and wonderful.

I remember seeing a reviewer describing the record, not in a
derogatory way, as being made for the countless depressed
people who suffer over the festive period, when depression
rates are the highest of the year. This is kind of true,
although just because this audience will appreciate it,
doesn't mean its depressing - quite the opposite. Its
basically a record trying to portray a message of pure peace
and tranquility and stillness and relief and tiredness...
the calm after the storm if you will. It sounds, like a lot
of Low's stuff, as if from a damaged and sensitive soul,
withdrawing from the pain of the world. It communicates, in
a quiet and introverted way, tenderness, which reminds me so
much of childhood Christmases.

So yeah, I really love this record :) I think its one of
Low's best selling as well, maybe something to do with the
Gap advert a few years back.

Yep! Although, the lyrics are quite dark still on some of
the tracks...

Walk Into The Sea has got some of the most darkest lyrics
I've heard from the band, yet the tune is pretty upbeat.
