please post the names of the VST's that you enjoy using when producing.
even better would be links to free VST's.
thanks!

I am reluctant to use them, I would rather build everything from scratch.

Hmmm.. I didn't explain that very well. Obviously I use soft synths and stuff, but if I wouldn't have a piece of software generate sounds at "random" or following a pattern dictated by the software. For example I write appeggios in piano roll, manually, so I can add in incedental notes. Also, I never use presets. My music still sucks though.

Both those sites looked pretty decent.
There are some more decent synths at:

I know what you mean too. I try the same thing. I spend hours on getting one wav just the way i want it. It just feels better that way. Not that i am opposed to VSTs but i am quite set in my ways

Is there like an IDM VST that I can just sort of start, leave for 40 minutes, come back and have an album ready?

Yes, I have a couple of vst/i's that you have to hook up together and go take a dump, then return for a brand new idm-track2000.
But I'm very reluctant to share them as I want to use them for my own advantage to make up for my lack of talent of course.

Pads on Polyiblit, run through supatrigga, with a cut up break in fruity slicer, with random patterns, is the best we have so far, then a granular delay fx on the master fx channel. I hope someone will combine these features into one app soon (please, as a standalone in Reaktor, pretty please, it is such an IDM host).

This isn't a plug for my own plugin, but you should check out (at your own risk) "noun_verb": LINK!
It's a lightweight reverb paired with a modulation delay (with feedback with lowpass filter) and a parabolic saturation stage.
I use it for 80's sounding drums (Cure, DM) and anything that requires a little smushing. Made with SynthEdit, a modular synth/fx development tool. The plugin is totally free, of course.
