is there an easier way to do this than:
• having/getting quicktime pro • opening the mp3 file • cutting • exporting it to .mp4 • opening the .mp4 file with itunes • converting the .mp4 to .mp3 • deleting the .mp4 • re-organising the id3 files
? surely there must be some nice utility to do this... but i haven't found any with versiontracker...

I use this it is called soundgriner it has lot of formats it can output. You can sort out those evil WMA Files.

also: never convert lossy formats to one format, and back again, you're going to make it sound muddy as hell, as the sound is now an approximation, of an approximation, of an approximation, of the original audio source (mp3<-mp4<-mp3<-orig). ugh.
