can you recommend a full length by this group? i love what
i've heard from them ... atmospheric, thick, progressive ...
so lush.

their first 2 records are brilliant. check out the live
mp3s on their brainwashed.com webpage.

also checkout the first 2 a silver mount zion recorrds.
those are top notch too.

you can do quite a bit of digging on their labels, so have
fun...good stuff. yum.

I would recommend the double album Lift Your Skinny Fists
Like Antennas To Heaven.

Its the one I first heard and its still my favourite. I
would say that if you're willing to spend some time
listening - or the EP Slow Riot for Zero New Kanada if you
want a quicker overview (its also excellent).

The first LP is good but not sure if its the best intro. The
last record is awful, so avoid that at all costs :S

But welcome to the world of Godspeed, they are totally
unique really!

yanqui wasn't that awful in my opinion.. true it didnt scale
the heights of the other records and the spoken word samples
are missed. but i still enjoy it.

They're all awesome. Honestly. Skinny Fists probably just
tops it over the lot though.

Let's party (in a post rock style) like it's 1999.

Its okay I guess...

I suppose my expectations were way high after Skinny Fists.
And yeah, part of the magic of that release was the found
sound clips... they were almost as important as the music
itself. Yanqui just seemed like an empty shell of a Godspeed
release.

Someone made a good point ages ago about the volume as well
- its not dynamic enough, production wise. On the first
album, the quiet bits are reeaaally quiet, you turn the
volume up, then the loud bits are really loud. On Yanqui it
was all a bit too levelled out, the 'loud' bits didn't seem
much louder than the 'quiet' bits.

Having said that I think the last track is pretty ace :)

wasn't it titsworth who was passionate about the fact that
Yanqui U.X.O. is betterr than Lift Your Skinny Fists Like
Antennas to Heaven. not surre.

Constellation has sorta been in the crapper as of late. I
wasnt feeling any of the several past releases. I also hear
GYBE might have disbanded for good... Can anyone confirm?
Regardless, I would really love a new record soon. While
there, might as well get a new Do Make Say Think record out
of 'em too. Also, if I may recommend.... Constellation
Records, dear friend, do us all a favor and release a Tim
Hecker record. We would love you for ever.

I've found 65daysofstatic to be the best post-whatever
instrumental band to come along in years. Highly, highly
recommended to all reading this thread, considering they all
have a tinge of electronic elements in their music as well.

Whoops, when I say "they all," I meant all of
65daysofstatic's records.
Sorry.

I met them some years ago when they were a supporting act at
a tiny rock show. They were great. Never thought that hybrid
of music would ever be appreciated beyond a small type of
fan... but they are clearly doing well for themselves.

The electronics guy was raelly sound. He told me about his
gear - he used really old Apple hardware for the sequencer
and a lot of hardware drum machines etc. Really nice guy.
Although the main guitarist was a bit austere.

I'm just teasing, sorry. More a less a reflection on most
people not willing to exercise the attention span to get
into GYBE. Though, attention span and taste are often not
the same thing. To be fair, to each his own.

cheers!

:D

I remember getting it when it came out (I was still quite
young) and being fascinated by the artwork for weeks. Its
still impressive although my copy looks like its been
through the wash a few times (its a cardboard case).

their music began to depress me so much (everything by the
collective) that i traded in my huge collection (including
some kind of rare material) for some random cds.

i still have skinny fists, though. that album rocks!
