Did anybody see this last night? The program featured
various tape recordings of Mark Chapman talking about his
life and why he felt compelled to shoot Lennon. V
interesting.
(British TV BTW)

Hey guy, just cool it with these negative and homophobic
comments. You might say that you're joking or perhaps being

"ironic", but words can still hurt, you know.

Sigh, it just seems to me I try and start a serious topic,
and people make all these childish homophobic comments, or
start posting links to internet humour soundfiles. It makes
me so fucking angry I have to make lots of really pithy,
smartarse posts about it.

Sometimes it makes me weep that I'm such a sensitive,
intelligent soul, and I'm forced to read the posts of less
worthy board members. It makes me want push their face
through a window, or make some really crap, long winded
analogy about how stupid they are or how much I hate them.

good post. i like Lennon .
but how can you say something like "John Lennon is shit" no
one is shit per se, especially not John Lennon.

i mean, come on here... let's be resonable. statements like
that only reveal ignorance without intelligence. any kind of
good argument i'd be open to... really.
i value all your comments, but on the other hand, i can
resent some as well.

swears- i dont think so.

Getting back on topic... I saw the program last night. It
was very interesting. Knowing nothing of Mark Chapman before
hand I expected him to be a crazy raging lunatic, wheras he
came across as very intelligent and together. He was clearly
disturbed somehow, but he seemed very much aware of himself
and what he did.

I was very interested in his obsession with Catcher in the
Rye. His disillusionment with the 'phonies' of the adult
world wasn't really that foreign to me, it seems
understandable. He was clearly an oversensitive person to
whom these things seemed more important than anything.
Although all of the talk about having two people inside him
dragging him different ways is kind of typical of mental
illness, the rest seemed not. It was a good doc.

It seemed more like he was almost sane, and used mental
illness as an excuse to kill Lennon. I remember reading
Catcher in the Rye when I was fourteen, and wondering how
such an innocent book could motivate someone to murder. In
the documentary, they explained it was the naivety of the
book that led Chapman to believe the adult world (and
Lennon) in particular was corrupt, and deserving of his
vengance.

Funnily enough there was a documentary on about Matthew
Barney on Wednesday night. He seemed very reluctant to
explain his work, did you see it?

Oooh no I missed it! That's a shame. Though I can imagine he
is a bit odd about his work. I've listened to his commentary
on the Order DVD a couple of times and he comes across
rather introverted, monotone kind of artist... dammit I wish
I'd seen that one. What channel was it on?

no, but they have a max. user policy, which in practice
means you have to be lucky when you hit "register".

just try a couple of times a day, it shouldn't take too long
(non-active users are thrown out regularly).

OH SNAP!

Being a fat, geeky, mongo with no friends made him snap. He
realised this, and instead of going to the gym or getting
wasted with some buddies, he went to shoot Ringo, or
whatever the hippy guy's name was.
